Found this non running. Got it home and cleaned the points put in fresh gas and it's a great runner.

Going for a full restoration.

Steering column got put back together and painted today. Turned out good enough. Very little play in it now.

Filled in some grooves that the belt had carved into the front axle over the years.

Anyone notice this before on a cub?

I'm assuming it was the belt for the deck. The grove was v shaped.

Maybe someone was using this with a worn or adjusted belt.

Re: 1964 Cub 100 Barn Find

That belt wear on the axle does seem to be not uncommon...there is a youtube of a guy putting an axle out of a 1872 ( one inch spindles) on a 129...he does comment that the same thing happened to the point the axle was weakened and split..I just did the steering on a 129 and can't believe the difference...replaced the cam follower, tie rod ends and put a thrust bearing on, what a difference.....Also would you mind telling me what paint you are using?...I can't find it any where near me, and yours looks great...

I'm using the Majic Cub cadet yellow from tractor supply.

It's been working really well for me.

I know it's not a close match to the original color, but it looks good enough to me.

So far I've painted a bunch of stuff with it and honestly it's good paint.

Any paint is only as good as the prep work.

Close up picture of the air filter cover. No primer on this. After I stripped the paint the metal was perfect.

2 color coats and a coat of clear. Looks good even before rubbing compound and wax

The fenders turned out nice. Got all the toys out of the garage for a quick wash.
