Re: Bought a 3240 Today

There is a used spool valve on ebay for $50.00. They are simple to rebuild for leaking. Only two o rings inside and very easy to rebuild and I wouldn't be concerned with buying a used one. Also a valve handle for sale. I would ask if the handle is for an aux. valve to make sure it's what you need.

Re: Bought a 3240 Today

The spool valve I see is being sold by Patton Acres here in Pa. and I have made used parts purchases from them and been very pleased. The handle is also from Patton Acres and is $25.00 but the ad does not state if it is a deck lift handle or aux. handle.

Thanks for finding that stuff. I'm not yet ready to do an OEM type lift setup. I'm going to want 4 spool valves total and that would be crazy expensive.
I'm researching using a 5 spool tractor valve. Still need to see if it would be plumbable.

Re: Bought a 3240 Today

I am sure you can fabricate something up but I have no experience there. You just need to make sure the parts you are using are rated at or higher than max psi produced by the charge pump.

When I buy cheap parts that are a pain to hunt down and shipping is higher than the part cost I always get extras.

Did that with the $2 plastic bushings and ended up changing 1 at the hydro I didn't even know existed.

Thanks for the manual. I've been getting ready to learn more about this beast.

Ray, did you add extra hydraulic controls to your tractor?

Unloaded tonight. Family portrait.
Hi Steve,
Congrats on scoring 3240. You will be very pleased with this tractor.
I have 207 3PT brand new that I was planing to put back on Ebay. I've got it on Ebay last February for $625 for one of my 3240's. It turns out that I never install it and finally traded in my 3240 for a 2018 JD X758 this summer. I have decided to keep one 3240 with full time Sims cab and 353 blower and 207 3PT . Therefore, I don't need the other 207.
Let me know if you would be interested in purchasing it.
Regards,

I got the tractor warmed up good and changed the hydro oil and filter today. Put Rotella T5 5W-40 synthetic in it for winter and a Cub 923-3014 filter. Also put a Dorman magnetic plug in, pt# 65216.

I cut the old filter open and pulled some media out. It had some glitter trapped in the filter pleats but nothing alarming. As the fluid drained I held a magnet in the fluid as it came out but it didnt get anything.

Sprayed the carb with carb cleaner as it was running and put Seafoam in the gas tank. The idle hunting/surging went away after it got nice and warm. I ordered a carb kit but will put it on the shelf for now.

Also cleaned the seat tracks as the seat wouldn't slide at all. They were packed with grung like the rest of this poor thing. Finally got them blown and beat out, oiled them and reinstalled them. Work great now.

Well I know it ain't as sexy as a 3 pt but all my implements are sleeve hitch anyway.

I got a sleeve hitch for free when I bought my box blade. It looks like some sort of MTD or Craftsman hitch with the hitch tube bolting on. I started fitting it to the 3240 hitch today.

I cut out for the dipstick, keyholed the hydro bypass in it, cut the ears down to fit in the framerails, drilled the hitch pin hole, and drilled oval holes at the bottom so it would sit flush over the factory hitch plate bumps.

I dont think the 2 pieces I have were meant for each other as the top bar of the hitch hits the bottom of the tractor mounting plate. I will have to cut a little off the back of that so it will fit. Any insight on what this hitch came from would be appreciated.

Still have to figure out how to lift it. Gonna try to hook a bar from the deck lift arms to it. If that won't work I have another winch I can bolt to the back mounting plate.

I rotated that second pic and reattached it 4X in all orientations including upside down and it always came out exactly as it is--rotated left.
