Just picked up this new little guy and thought a rebuild thread is in order
First off it is not the Fonz :sidelaugh
It is a '71 Hahn GT700 hydro with a 12hp tecumseh engine. In its life it was repainted in Ford colours, and so it doesn't get confused with my other GT700 it got the name of a Fahn
We just got it home after a 1700+ km round trip to Goatboy's house who picked this up off Kijiji for me. Thanks again Ben!
It came with the 36" mower deck and the 36" snow blower. It needs some love but it was almost the top of the line Hahn produced!
Enough talk here are the pictures!
The SSI we believe it dead, so the PO began to try and rig up a solution that did not work, he looked to be on the right track tho
The Fahn also took a trip with us to the Beau's Brewery in Vankleek Hill Ontario
That is all for now . We are going to unload it later today and maybe start looking into converting the ignition to a different system.
Looked through the box of parts today that came with the machine, all of it is there. The only things we found missing is the belt cover for the snow blower pulley and the cover that goes over the hydraulic fill cap.
Also, this machine came with the original manuals in good shape!
The tractor manual has the original owners name, phone number and address written in it which I think is neat . The original date of purchase is in there too, June 3rd 1971
Thanks TN. It will definitely stay blue for awhile, not sure if it will get a repaint or not. Maybe one of these days! After we get it running and use it awhile
Congratulations Mike! Very interesting tractor(s) Honestly, I thought Hahn only made RERs. It was nice getting the attachments, and manuals too. And Fahn.., perfect! I guess that it will be yellow again at some point
The gear drive tractor in your pic above looks great! I also like the shifter "knob". :fing32: Is it a Canadian brand?

Thanks Dave! They only made the GT700 4 years. In that time it was offered with a 7hp then to 8hp (both briggs) and later had the 12hp tec and wisconsin engines and the option of hydrostatic drive. The attachments are the hardest to find, the manuals were icing on the cake ?
The gear drive looks good in that picture but it is pretty rough actually. I bought it being told it was restored, but it needs a ton of work. I didnt lose on the deal, but it is not as was told. Its a project down the road . The beer knob is actually Sterrling beer which was brewed in the Evansville Indiana area (where Hahn was built). He kept the tap as well since he is a Sterrling collector
Thanks Austen! . Haven't had a whole lot to add, but a buddy of mine just got this original brochures for the 1970 Hahn model year. Thought you guys may like to see them! I know the quality isn't the best, but they aren't mine
Now that my mid term is over we are back to playing with the Fahn. My Dad has been working on the ignition (which I will fill you guys in on if/when he gets it finished). We have also did a few other things such as get it set up on the hoist so it is easier to work on as well as free up the hydro release handle and the park brake handle
I did not get a picture of the handles, but they can be seen in the above picture right next to the fender
We also took the back frame plate off (great system, 8 bolts and the whole back comes off).
Anyone recognize that differential? It is a peerless 1300 series just like what is used in my Ford YT, however it uses a different pump. It looks a bit dirty in there but that can be cleaned out later
No problem . If my buddy gets actual scanned ones I will post those also! Theres stuff in there that we believe was never offered such as a rear 6" plow, cultivator, and the 34" grader blade (since the known fromt mount snow blades are 40"), as well as a front mount thatcherizer (powered dethatcher much like the Hahn built Verticut) all for the GT700. We have seen it in ads, but I doubt if any of it actually exists
Just means that we have to keep our eyes pealed ?. I would like to know what kind of rear hitch they had planned for those attachments
I remembered that a few monthes back when we went to a GT salvage yard about an hour and a half away I took a picture of a GT700 carcass they had. Looks like it was a hydro 12 like the Fahn. If we are up in that area again we may stop and see what he wants for the whole thing. It is missing the engine, dash, and that looks like it. Notice the cover infront of the seat that is missing from the Fahn that covers the oil fill cap (which is actually placed in the cut out for the 3 speed + reverse manual transmissions) and it looks to have the original seat too
Well guys, I am happy to report we have spark. My Dad has successfully rebuilt a dead new style SSI, and we have a second one we want to try just for a test! Thanks to Goatboy again for the 2nd dead one to play with!
We want to wait and see/make sure it lasts and works correctly before we post how we did it here . My Dad is quite proud tonight
Now that we have spark, it is full speed ahead to get the fahn operational!
We are hoping Eric! The tank is a varnish filled disaster, but the fuel line and filter looks dry so we will drop the float bowl and if it looks good we may try it! That may be tomorrow
We can then test out the hydro, by how slimey it is we think it might be leaking somewhere
Thanks Dave! I will probably get up there sometime next year. That tractor has been there atleast 15+ years by how much it sunk. Don't think it will be going anywhere! There was a bunch of sets of hub caps too, maybe I will pick a set up for the Fahn too. They are weathered but would match the rest of the tractor. Only options it wouldnt have is a tail light and sun shade, since we plan to install a cig lighter
I have always thought a GT700 diesel would be cool, that might make a good platform . That would be far in the future tho
We began cleaning the tank today. We got about a quarter of a tank of old gas that looked like nestea and smelled like varnish, with a hint of sweet smell (stabilizer maybe)? Now theres is a bunch of solid crud and rust so we will get the ball bearings out tomorrow and give it a shake!
The fuel shutoff is rusted shut and the filter in the tank has completely rotted away aswell. The tank itself looks pretty solid still tho
We have spare tanks but figured why not just get it all set and done from the beginning! We pulled the carb tonight and it was spotless which was surprising.
Went to button up the engine shroud and routed the spark plug wire as shown in the tecumseh manual, and it is too short. Both the one that was on it (which I can only assume is not original) and the sears one are both too short. Not sure if the wires can be changed for longer ones or not
Any ideas guys?
