If it helps any, when you click on the thumbnail and look at the full size pic, it is right side up. It looks better when the wheels are on the bottom.

Now we need some engine and tractor porn. In other words, more pics please.

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

ok, here we go - on initial look and rough measurements, I've got me some fettling to do to marry up the flywheel housing to the tractor bell cover and some fabrication to do to get the front axle bracket to bolt to the engine -

yes its a brand new Cummins however it was built in China where Cummins has operated for 40+ years

It looks awesome btw, big big thanks to John at 4BTEngines and I got a cap, beer holder and sticker too :-)

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Are you sure the motor is up to be used as part of the frame?

Unless it is very clear the engine is designed to be mounted/used that way, I would fab a frame that the front axle bolts to, and that the motor sits in, and then the engine/frame is bolted to the transmission housing.

Yeh, from what I've read, and it's a lot......including guidance from the engine supplier, I think the engine would be fine being used as part of the frame although I may have to go the rail route anyway as I've got a front end loader attachment to install. I'm more concerned about finding a flywheel housing that fits the bellhousing.
Luckily it's a long weekend up here in the land of the canuck so I'll have a bit of "fettling" time 👨‍🌾

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Is the transmission a manual or automatic? The input looks like it has 2 separate splined shafts, which to me makes it more likely to be an automatic (one drives a pump all the time, the other driven by a torque converter).

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Hey Dave,

its a manual transmission on the tractor - there are 2 separate splined shafts as one drives the PTO and the other drives the wheels

Engine porn. Nice. Even tho it is made in China, I've always heard Cummings makes a good engine. I suspect they watch the quality of the engines a lot to make sure they are what they should be. Detroit Diesel is another engine I've heard of that is really good too, if they are still in business. Sad thing is, sometimes older engines are better than new ones. It just depends.

I'm hoping to see pics/video of a tractor doing some work sometime soon. I suspect several of us will be doing a little dance for you. lol

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

thanks Dalek,

i can only work very part time on it until 1st July so thinking It should be up and running by end of July.
I hear you about the engine and it is as North American / cost balanced as I could get - its a Cummins, was purchased by me through 4BTEngines in Denver and then shipped up to the land of the Canuck. from my research, you cant get hold of mechanical engines very easily, if at all up here so my options became more and more limited
Not sure if anyone watches Diesel Brothers or Vegas Rat Rods - they've installed a few of the 4BT's in their builds
I'll be doing more than a dance when its all working and no, there wont be any pictures of that...

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Did you figure out if the transmission has one of the sae standard bolt patterns? If so, then you should be able to find an adapter kit (adapter plate/flywheel) that bolts the engine to the transmission, with a flywheel, then you need to find a clutch setup with that works with the outer splines, and a short tube with splines that bolts to the center of the flywheel to drive the pto input.

It might make it easier if you can figure out if the transmission is similar to one in another brand of tractor. That would make it easier to find the right setup when googling something like "4bt tractor adapter kit" or "4bt tractor repower".

ha ha! I'm going to be able to bail my yard by the time I get around to getting a tractor working to mow. BUT I'm hopping the 332 will tear right through it.

So it turns out no one recognizes the bell housing on my tractor let alone want to make an adapter for a 4BT SAE3 Flywheel housing. The bellhousing marries to a YTO Diesel engine. YTO themselves being around since 1955 and the biggest manufacturer of tractors in China.
Anyways, next option, get my manufacturer to ship over a flywheel and flywheel housing that they normally use then try and fit them to my Cummins. Air freight from China to me is just short of twice the price of the actual parts.......at least it should be quick I guess.....
