Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Thought I'd sum up where I'm at
• 1st tractor, 75HP 4x4 MFWD with Aircon Cab, FEL and Kohler engine from alibaba
○ $24k CDN ($18k USD) with CIF shipping to Vancouver
○ didn’t work out and supplier cancelled order
○ Refund through alibaba was easy
○ Learnt a lot
• 2nd Tractor - 130HP Rated 4x4 MFWD, Aircon Cab, FEL - no engine from another supplier at alibaba
○ Tractor was delivered in less than 3 months from order and requires some building
○ $24,500 CDN ($18470 USD) FOB for Tractor
○ $8,000 CDN - Door to Door shipping fees, import fees, Taxes -
○ $900 CDN forUnforeseen extra week of leaving container at destination for unload -
§ My skid and forks couldn’t unload it, too big and heavy
○ $600 CDN - FEL rental to unload from container - 1/2 day -
○ Total so far $34k CDN ($25,600 USD)
○ Items to still source
§ A 100-130HP engine with all ancillaries - I have a clutch
□ Cooling system - radiator / fan etc
□ Exhaust + manifold
□ Air intake system
□ Fluid reservoirs
□ Fluids
§ Bell Housing adapter & Flywheel
What may I have missed that I still would need?

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

I feel compelled to tell you about my experience with Aliexpress (part of Alibaba). I ordered an electric guitar, double cut-away, two pickups, vibrato, etc. The pictures looked Great! They said I'd receive the one pictured. Not so. I ordered it with case. The guitar didn't fit the case they sent it in. It was one tough ride that guitar got, bouncing all the way from China! The guitar arrived with the finish worn down to the wood in several places. The serial number was NOT the one pictured. Even the interior of the case was damaged from all the jostling. I plugged it in and got lots of hum (I really didn't care for that extra chorus). I took the guitar to my Luthier and he said the neck was warped too badly to be fixed (it was a set neck rather than bolt on). The guitar was UNplayable! I contacted the sender and they said to ship it back. The cost to ship to china would be more than what I paid for the guitar. I refused since they has lied to me with bait & switch tactics. I took documenting pictures and ended up keeping the guitar and I got my money back from my credit card. If things don't work out for you, be prepared to use your credit card for reimbursement and don't take any crap from any Chinese shysters!

Plug, Good Luck in finishing off your attempt at getting a running Tractor! My feelings are you can't compromise Quality machines with a Cheaper Knock off, You will always be disapointed in the end result, whether it be Durability or cost effective. China is not the way to go here! But I give you credit for your efforts!

In it's day the six gun was as common as the cell phone and just as annoying when it went off in the theater!!! A Government strong enough to give you everything you need, is also strong enough to take everything you have!

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

Got quotes for 2 1204 model Perkins engines this morning, good job I was sat down when I got them, may have to rethink slightly...…….

somewhere between $36-42k CDN + taxes

@Redgravely - thanks for the wishes and even if it doesn't turn out well for me, if others can learn from me and my experiences, then I'm good with that, oh and if it provides everyone with some entertainment in the process, even better :-)

I absolutely LOVE your attitude.

I am concerned that you'll end up with something nobody can (or will) work on.

I’m thinking when he does get it together, seeing as how he’ll have put it all together and doesn’t depend on it for a livelihood, he’ll likely be able to do most of his own service work. No hurry to get parts, has the time and tools to troubleshoot, etc.

I was very afraid of this. Manufacturers probably get a good discount buying from engine suppliers as they are buying multiple units at a time. Ouch.

What other options are you exploring?

2016 Cub XT3 GSE 54" Fab deck, fabbed winch sleeve hitch
2001 Cub 3240 44" deck, fabbed hydraulic sleeve hitch

Yikes, $8000 for shipping a container? It wasn't too many years ago that a container could be shipped from Shanghai to a west coast USA port for $600.
Like I said earlier, I do wish you the best Plug. That good attitude you have will come in mighty handy!

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

@steddy - thanks for the vote of confidence and that's what I'm thinking - when its winter for near on 6 months of the year, gotta have some project to keep me busy :-)
@STEVE - looking at reconditioned ones and been put in contact with these folks http://www.westlocktractor.com/ who I'll be chasing up next week
@Junky - that was the all up cost of shipping a whole 40ft High Capacity trailer as that's what was needed and included brokerage fees, import fees, tax ($1500cdn) customs inspection, being on a ship from China to Prince Rupert in BC, rail transport from Prince Rupert to Edmonton (Canadian railways are pretty congested so not cheap) then road shipping the final 2 hours from Edmonton to delivery location.

I was having another look at used tractors in Alberta here https://www.agdealer.com/listings/tr...epower=100-140 and so far, I think I'm doing ok cost wise - famous last words...………………

Gonna try and get the wheels on this weekend, if it ever gets above -15C (5F for the folks south of the border :-p) and stops snowing andI don't have to fix the skid and the wife doesn't give me a big long list of things to do...…………

but as its Friday night, I'm off out for a beer or two or three to numb the shock of a perkins engine...…………...

Also the fact the loonie to US dollar exchange rate sucks and last but not least, the shipping costs which were on par with shipping from china when I was scooting through iron planet. Now if I can just find someone local to me that will actually sell me an engine, preferably a Perkins 1204.........

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

@gary - theres an ice wall for 4-6 months of the year though :-)
@deere332 - haven't got the shipping bill in front of me but for a 40ft HC container with the tractor in it it was around $1400 for the tax on the tractor, $3000 for the shipping from china to Prince Rupert, BC, $1400 for the rail transport from Prince Rupert to Edmonton, $900 for 200km road transport to the destination address, $300 for the customs inspection and then the remaining $1000 was for insurance and brokerage fees + tax on everything else but the tractor tax,
@Mopar65 - I'm comfortable with getting the tractor from China, the engine however, for that I will need local support so not gonna bend on that - be interested to know what MOPAR you're driving, I got me a 2016 Charger SRT as well as a 2010 Ram - so there you go, I do buy North American :-)

I'd attach the parts manual for folks to have a look at but its too big to attach at 30mb

Re: Would anyone be Interested in my Chinese Tractor Experience

engine might get cheaper once this stupid trade war is over (as in between Canada and the US), as equipment parts from the US has a hefty tariff (10%).

might be cheaper and more fun to buy a used engine and rebuilt it (or two, one to use right away, one to rebuild and put in to last for awhile)...

Well lets see. I have a 93 club cab 8 ft bed 4x4 auto Cummins, My wife has a 2000 extra cab short bed 4x4 Cummins 5 speed, I drive a 2000 caravan for a work beater, we have a 2000 Durango I need to get on the road, I have an 88 W250 360/5 speed (yes I converted it to 5 speed) plow truck, a 73 SE 400/727 triple black Charger with 78K miles on it numbers matching my 14 year old son wants, a 77 Ramcharger 400/727 4x4, an 80 Trailduster 318/4 speed that I am about to start a resto on with my 16 year old son because he wants it, and last but not least our "trail rig" for off road and mudding is a 79 Ramcgarger with a built 360/727 on 37.5" tires no lift, factory springs but wheel wells cut out to fit the tires. So I have a couple of them.

Good luck with the engine search and getting the tractro up and running.

Just something to look at. The engine in my dad's tractor has been very reliable, never had a problem with that part of it. Just the hydraulics are a pain.
