This deck is giving me a hassle. I bought the tractor to tow a garden trailer, I didn't pay much attention to the deck. Now I need to use this deck but it was partially disassembled by someone before me, left to rust and the reason the belt snapped is because the spring that tensions one of the pulleys was missing the attachment that holds it fixed to the bed. I've looked at the parts layout http://samsbolens.com/files/30042R.pdf and the spring, part # 22, high upper right provides tension to the belt, but I can't figure how to attach it to the "immovable part", the fixed end. Also, the covers for the outer pulleys that drive the outer blades are missing (parts 2 & 3, upper left), I can cobble something together this winter to replace those but I'd like to make a correct attachment for the spring, now. I'm removing parts to wire-brush and remove the rust, electrolysis for the deep rusted parts.
As to the tensioner spring, maybe I can bolt a piece of angle iron to the bed and make a hole for the spring in the angle Iron & anchor it that way? If someone has one of these 42" rear discharge 3 blade Bolens 30042R, if you could please take a photo of each side of the bed so I can get an idea what that spring anchors to & how the covers for the pulley attaches, that would help greatly. I haven't been able to find even one photo of this deck anywhere.
Thanks
