Honda GX240 engine stop switch

The stop switch on this Honda GX240 will not kill the engine. Took switch out, checked for continuity through wire to block -- good. continuity from oil sensor to small aluminum cube on the side of engine is good, but no continuity to each other. Anyone know what the little 1" square aluminum cube is for and what it does? Thanks
