Old Ryobi is shot, what to get for all those attachments?

My old Ryobi powerhead is about had it, tired of messing with it. I have the
tiller, edger, blower, tree pruner, chainsaw pruner and the hedge trimmer.
So I need something to power them with, the old one lasted about 15 years.
I see that Lowe's has Troy-Blit, Home Depot has Ryobi and Sears has
Craftsman. Are they all made by the same company? It seems anyone of
them will accept all my attachments. The Ryobi at HD doesn't seem to get
a very good average on ratings, looks like a love/hate relationship. The
Troy-Bilts are too new to have any reviews at Lowe's, haven't really looked
too hard at the Sears. Is there any other brands that will take these
attachments? HD has the power unit only for $80 but it's online only.
Which one would y'all buy?

Too bad echo doesn't make a Powerhead that will fit. They make a better than average motor. Have hedge trimmer and blower from them, nice motors.

I read the reviews on the Echo. The reviewers at Home Depot claimed that
Echo doesn't even sell attachments in the US for their split boom trimmers.
Looks like they were wrong I just found lots of attachments for the Echo on their
website but looks like Echo only, but yeah if they fit the Echo that would be the way
to go. My reg. trimmer is a lightweight Dolmar that's rated for Pro use, don't
even know if I'm going to be able to use it this season after having back
surgery. Wife, sons and our farm helper will hopefully be able to fill in. Before
I got the Dolmar I had a Shindaiwa, once you use a Pro quality trimmer it's
hard to go back but the Ryobi has always been so handy with the inexpensive
attachments, some of which came from yard sales. We used the tiller to put
bed edges around all of our flower beds, then they just need to be cleaned
up every so often with a line trimmer.

I don't think any Echo or Stihl will fit but most or the "homeowner" brands will. Craftsman, Homelite, Troy-Bilt, etc

When in doubt of a fitament, take one of the smaller attachments to the store with you.

Re: Old Ryobi is shot, what to get for all those attachments?

Larry, I had a Ryobi 4 cycle power head with all the attachments. It lasted me about 7 years. I notice whenever I use the hedge trimmer and raise the thing vertically it would choke out and cut off. Eventually, it wouldn't start and I didn't want to take it apart or have someone fix it so I just bought a new one but its the 2 cycle one. The only drawback is it's not as powerful as the 4 cycle one. But I do notice the 2 cycle one gets better gas mileage. The first 2 or 3 I owned lasted only about 2 years but they were 2 cycle ones. I'm like you I have all the attachments and I'm kind of stuck with the brand. They don't sell a 4 cycle power head unless you buy it with a whacker and they want 200 for it. I paid 100 and 12 for a 2 year warranty at Home Depot.

Re: Old Ryobi is shot, what to get for all those attachments?

I followed your thread to the Ryobi sight and couldn’t find it. I have the 40V Lithium head with the trimmer and blower heads. My friend had it and it quit working for him. He didn’t have time to get it running and he bought a gas trimmer. He gave the electric one to me since he thought being an Electrical Engineer I might be able to fix it. I took it apart, moved some wires and it ran, but soon did the same thing for me, repeated the process over 4 more times, but finally saw the motor wires soldered into the circuit board came too close to the heatsink on the power transistor. I unsoldered them and moved them so the tips had more clearance and whalla, it’s been working ever since without issue. Maybe the electric head would fit your attachments. You can buy it, but if you have to buy the battery and charger, it wouldn’t make much sense, since you can buy the whole tool, head, battery, and charger for less.

Re: Old Ryobi is shot, what to get for all those attachments?

Just realized my post above was in March of 2010! My Robi died several years ago and I now use a Poulan Pro. Two attachments weed whacker and pole saw. It has done well for 5+ years now.
