Simplicity 17gth won't start

I just purchased a new to me Simplicity 17gth with a 17 horse kohler magnum motor, 1150 hrs. The gentleman I purchased it from said he just replaced the coil. Here's my problem, after about 40 minutes of cutting if I shut the tractor off and try to start it, it will run for a few seconds and then shut off. I tried starting it a few times and had the same result, dies after a few seconds. I took off the air cleaner, dumped gas down the carburetor throat, looked down into the carburetor and the gas was bubbling, it almost appeared to be boiling. Turned the key and fired right up and continued to finish the lawn. This happened to me a second time now and after dumping some gas down the carburetor and starting it seemed to be starving for fuel and running like crap. I topped the tank off thinking more fuel= more pressure in the fuel line. It seemed to still run poorly, cracked open the fuel cap and same result, runs poorly. When the engine is cold, it runs fine it actually will run good until it's shut off. I'm trying to eliminate the coil since the guy I bought it from works on small engines and stated he put a new coil in it. I don't know if the fuel pump has ever been replaced and they are relatively cheap, but I don't want to just start throwing parts at it. Also the carburetor bowl sits about 3/8 of an inch above the muffler heat shield could gas be evaporating?I have a good amount of fuel before the pump, but haven't tried after the pump due to it looks like a pain to get the line off and back on. It also has a new fuel filter. Any one have this happen to them? Ideas?

Thanks snaponguy13 but I'd like to rule it out, simply because it runs great until hot. If worst comes worst I can pull it apart it doesn't take very long. Thanks

He's an expert and he replaced the coil. BUT ..... did he use a NEW coil? Many of these so-called experts will throw on what evers handy. It worked (cold) and he sold this puppy to you.

I'd suspect the coil as it fails hot.

(Only other thing is vapor lock, very unusual that it continues to run hot until shut off. If it had vapor lock it will usually stop when hot.)

PS did you change the plug?
