1994 Simplicity Broadmoor Won't Crank

I have a 1994 Simplicity Broadmoor in good condition. It was sitting for about a year before i put some fresh gas in and tried to start it up. Battery was dead, so I hooked up one of those Li-Ion battery jump start devices to the battery to attempt to start the tractor. The engine moved a little bit but then nothing. I took the battery out and charged it overnight on a battery trickle charger. after that i hooked it up back to the tractor, this time all of the indicators turn on but there is no cranking at all. I do not hear any clicking noise when i turn the key. Any idea on where to start troubleshooting? Neutral, seat and oil pressure indicators are lit and the brake pedal is depressed.

Hi, the battery checks out at a little over 12V. Gave up and brought it into a local place for service. With twins I just dont have the time anymore to do anything

Re: 1994 Simplicity Broadmoor Won't Crank

My guess is the battery is junk first and foremost.... If you jumped it and it cranked that has to be the reason. If you jump it and it is still weak, check your battery connections/ground.

I usually work backwards from the starter. Jump the starter see if it turns, good, then jump the solenoid, good then see if im getting 12v from the ignition switch to the solenoid. I have a similar tractor and the wiring on those is a little complicated but make sure the safety switches are working.

To rule out a safety switch I will just ground the terminal from the solenoid to the frame real quick and turn the key, if it cranks, something is not right with the switches or switch wiring.

Well the shop investigated. Turns out it was a bad solenoid... The thing cranked when the battery was dead and i had the battery jump starter hooked up to it, but im starting to think it may have fried the solenoid if that's even possible... I will just pull the battery out next time and trickle charge it in my garage
They will also be replacing and servicing my tractor for me... it's been overdue... brand new blades, idler pulleys, and the routine oil, filter, engine filter, spark plug, etc...
