Wow! That's cool man, nice find.... I miss the 90s, that was when all the good mowers were being made.

Re: Ultimate 21" Mower

Just a quick update on the situation. I was at the dealer that owns the hardware/mower store where the Green Machine. I talked to the owner(82) and asked him about it. He said that yes they were NOS and he just moved them over there. He asked what price was on 'em. I told him $680. He said that $575 would probably do it! Still not sure. Gonna check on the 22040 when I get this Toro sold.

If I had $575, I would drive down there and nab one. You can get crap for the same price at home depot.

575 sure does seem tempting. I'd be all over it if it was a Robin 2 stroke.
Wonder if they'd ship it out to Denver?

We'll see. I'll probably go for it. The 22040 was used commercially. I saw it the other day.

Yeah. You can get the Toro Super Recycler with a Chinese engine and electric start for that much! Although, the Toro does have electric start. Hm...NO WAY!

Re: Ultimate 21" Mower

I have my own electric start. A socket and an electric drill. It works great on mowers that you are working on getting started. I got tired of messing up my shoulder trying to get my L20ZPRA started.

Re: Ultimate 21" Mower

The only feature I demand in every mower I buy is electric start. Plastic wheels are fine, cheesy drive systems are OK, Chinese engines are good...but it MUST have electric start.

But seriously, I would absolutely get one at $575. A top-condition 22040 would probably command similar money if not more.

I heard that plastic crankshafts and con rods also are easier on the environment! Hahaha!

Re: Ultimate 21" Mower

A couple year ago, I took a mechanical engineering course at Oregon State University called Failure Analysis. The class split into teams and analyzed moving parts, mostly engines. One team analyzed a Briggs Quantum and suggested changing the plastic camshaft to metal. A grad student in the room suggested that the cam was made of plastic so it wears out instead of the mating parts! And I thought the idea was to have NOTHING wear out.

Re: Ultimate 21" Mower

good grief the quantum is allready weak and frail as is! however its quality built compared to some of whats offered now. the inteck has plastic gears and i have had one strip its cam gear set. i had chances to get several of the last comm lawnboys 4 strokes but i wouldnt pay top $ for a mower with a briggs quantum as a commercial machine. yes a deere deck would be sweet with a 2 stroke robin.

It sure is! Once it breaks, there is no possible way to make anymore pollution. That's just plain logical!

I just got a new DR Trimmer/Mower with the Quantum and I'm honestly impressed so far. It always starts first pull and it's quiet, very similar sounding to the Kawasaki FC150V. My last Quantum (1990 Toro Recycler) was loud and rough. Of course who knows how long it will last...My older DR Trimmer/Mower has the Intek. 14 years old and only carb problems so far. But I've never cared for its idle quality. That new Quantum sounds far better.
