Just picked this up today and it runs great! Sellers father was in the business for many years and this was either going to auction or the scrapyard. Model 1819 from 1964. Perhaps I will find someone who will give it a good home. Someone got a bit carried away with the spray can but not terrible. Bill

Also got a bunch of parts which I still need to inventory. Many of these I will post in the for sale section dirt cheap, plus shipping, to help out my fellow members before putting them on eBay.

Nice score there, Bill!
Really looks like its in great shape for the age.
The Snow Boys are becoming very thin on the ground. I saw a red 1819 like this one for sale up in PA and half contemplated driving 2+ hours to get it.

Hey Bill,

I see you made it up north. Welcome to the LB snowboy club!

I got one of these from the same dealer and it had new coil, points and condenser. I put a new chain on it and used it last winter. They are a lot of fun and are a snow eatin' machine, but they have fewer safety features than a corn picker!

Best

Nice find Bill, I have one of the gold ones from the early 60's. Does a good job even thought it is not self propelled, it dosen't take much to keep it moving. Looking for one of the self propelled versions with the steel track wheels. The only bad part is the small path that it clears.

Well had a little time yesterday and was going to start on some mowers that were given me but then I got to thinking about the Snowboy and the fact that it starts but wont stay running. Mixed up some fresh 16:1, cleaned and gapped the plug, and made sure the vented fuel cap was open. Would you believe that thing started and ran perfectly! Let it run for a while and then back into the garage. Did a little light cleaning and then carefully, with some 0000 steel wool and some WD40, I got all the red paint off of the model plate. Also rubbed where the Lawnboy decal is as well as the decals on the sides of the shroud and the starting instruction.. Not perfect but they were under there and at least they show up well now. Also figured out how to adjust the auger chain by loosening the lower nuts and the side bracket and prying the engine back until the chain was snug and re tightening the nuts. Much smoother! I did discover that the sprocket/chain guard on the side is missing so if anyone has one from a parted out Snowboy, send me a PM. I looked for some snow to test it in but most around here has melted with the warm December temps so I will have to wait for the next snow. Just glad it's running well now. Bill

Harry, thanks for posting that part number and model reference however finding a guard is going to be tough. A local guys who saw my ad for the Snowboy and ended up bringing me three mowers has the same model. He is going to check to see if his has the guard and may take some pictures and make a tracing and I may consider making one. Bill

Well I got the picture of the guard from the local guy so I have a good idea what the guard looks like. Took a few measurements off the Snowboy and started drafting a 1:1 scale drawing. Then created a mock up of the guard using corrugated cardboard. Picked up a piece of sheet steel from my local welder today for nothing and after cutting out my template and using spray adhesive to attach it to the steel, I very carefully cut out the guard using a jigsaw. As of right now it is still flat as I ran out of time. Perhaps tomorrow I will attempt to bend this into the shape of a guard. The curved side will be done in tabs and if it turns out well I may have it inside of the tabs welded. Time will tell. So far, so good. A few pictures showing the progress so far. Bill

Okay I worked on the guard today. Bent the two straight edges in the vise between two steel rulers. The tabs on the curved end were done with a vise grip. Everything fit and lined up very nicely. Now I just have to decide about the tabs. Solder? Braze? JB Weld? It would work as is however it would look nicer with the tabs attached together.

Hi all! Well here are the final pictures of the guard. I ended up soldering the tabs, filing and grinding them relatively smooth, and then applying a nice layer of JB Weld on the inside of the curve and out. After drying I smoothed the inside just a bit but left most of the material there for extra strength. On the outside I used my palm sander and got the radius nice and smooth. Primed it and applied a few coats of Krylon Satin Black. I didn't have any red paint and I wouldn't have been able to match what was on there anyway so for now protecting the metal from rust was the choice. I was very happy with the way this turned out. Now I just need to find someone who wants to give it a good home. Bill

Thanks guys! Yes I am happy how it turned out. It was a fun project to take from the planning stage to paper and then from there create a mock up and then finally scribe the steel and process it into it's final form. I am kind of looking forward to trying it out once we get some snow just to see how it works and to be able to say that I have used one. Bill

Well I can now add to my list of Lawnboys that I have used to include the Snowboy. Finally got a bit of snow but not a lot. Used my 36" pusher shovel to get all the snow from the driveway and alley over to both sides and after I was done shoveling I got out the Snowboy for its trial run. After a bit of coaxing it started and ran great. Out to the driveway and away I went. The Snowboy performed very well and only leaves about 1/4 inch on the concrete. Used it for about 15 minutes and then put it away. It was fun to use, kind of like using the Lawnboy edger in the summer. Only threw the snow about 10 to 12 feet but worked well. I would still like to find someone that would give it a good home as I just don't have the space to store it. Bill

Yeah if I had lots of room I would keep it and use it occasionally however it is a heavy beast and lifting it up to the garage loft is out of the question. I am still hoping that someone would like to have this piece of Lawnboy history. It is in remarkably good shape and works well as it is or would be a great candidate for a cosmetic upgrade. Bill

Well going to try eBay to see if any interest. Starting price at what I paid the seller for it. I guess if I need to ship I will but prefer not to unless I am actually making something on the sale. Bill

Well I have had one inquiry from Fort Wayne Indiana, about 318 miles east of here and I just received a message from someone in the Minneapolis area, about 354 miles north of here asking if was still available. The wheels are turning. Bill

Well for me the Snowboy saga has come to a close. Originally when I bought it I just didn't want it to go to auction and figured I could find a collector who would appreciate having it. That day was today. Greg (BoWoggie) and his wife drove up from a town about 45 minutes south of here to get some engines and parts that I had available, and I had mentioned to him that he needed the 1964 Snowboy model 1819 to go with his recently refurbished 1964 model 6250. Well after a very nice visit, Greg and his wife left with a bunch of parts and he is is now the proud owner of the Snowboy. I am just very glad that it has gone to a good home. Bill
