Re: Somethin' kinda funny...

Interesting! Must be an '04 or '05 model. Kinda rare to see a 4 cycle that isn't on the steel deck too.

Mowers:

1973 - 3058 (D-433) (Rebuilt)
1974 - 8251 (D-480)
1975 - 5273 (D-601) (Rebuilt)

I've never seen anything but a Duraforce behind an Easy Stride handle, so that's why it seemed odd to me. Thought someone may have done a motor swap. But that model # shows exactly this! Crazy.
I went to contact 'em to get the model # on it but it had already sold. That was fast, haha.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Somethin' kinda funny...

Back when I was a 4 cycle fan, that was the mower of my dreams. I remember seeing one on Craigslist for $50 a few years back, but around the same time I switched my main mower from a tecumseh powered 10360 to the V powered 10314, and the rest was history. They donít really compare to the two strokes, but the tecumseh models were nice in their own right and itís a shame they werenít more popular.

Lol, why was that one the mower of your 4-cycle dreams? I would think a Honda-motor'd LB would be more likely to fall in a category like that.
I haven't owned a functional V yet, just had 1 junker I got for free and stripped a couple/few parts off of, then scrapped. I know they're said to have more torque than an F, but also louder and more shaky. I'm partial to my late-model F and Duraforces myself. For a while my 'gotta have' mower was a 10550, such as in my sig. I finally purchased one, then that changed, lol. I'm probably gonna re-sell it if I get time this year, but my summer has turned on it's ear and it's been crazy so we'll see if I get time to get that far.

Since they never made a Honda powered staggered deck LB, I figured that gold series tecumseh was the nicest factory made machine. Regarding the V, I'm part of a small percentage of people who love the V engine, it is very torquey, can almost run with my duraforces, doesnít have the lower seal and coil issues plaguing the duraforce engines, and is a few pounds lighter. When the muffler baffle is intact and the muffler housing isnít broken around the mounting screws (which is rare, they are often broken), it is hardly louder than an F engine. Iíd say the F is the best engine, love my 10651, but would definitely put the V ahead of the duraforce in quality. The 10550 was my Ďgotta haveí mower for a couple years. I got one last year, didnít even have it 3 weeks before I traded it. Iíve sold all of my duraforces except for my super clean 10324, which is up for sale on Craigslist now. Once that one goes, Iíll celebrate being duraforce free and get myself a 10518 or 10523.

Ah. Maybe the youtube vids of the Vs I've heard had the muffler issues making it louder.
I have a couple Duraforce I think w/leaky bottoms, haha. The one that I use as my main back yard mower (10323) doesn't leak and doesn't surge. It's a beast and I love it. I wouldn't care to push one around though - like the the latest one I obtained and plan on fixing and flipping.. a push version Duraforce - screw that noise, lol. Wouldn't be so bad on flats, but I have hills in the back yard and have come to really like that 10323 for them. I used my little 19" F pusher out back last week because I had arm surgery and need to use something light since I'm a 1-arm bandit for now, and albeit small and light, I still prefer my 10323 out back. It's just better suited for the back, but it's heavier. The 104101 is my front yard mower and works perfectly for that and outshines the 10323 for the front application. I get the weirdest looks when I say I have a front-yard mower and a back-yard mower, lol.
I'd have to look to see if my Easy Stride Duraforce has a seal leak, I wanna say it does a little bit but I forget. I didn't use it this season so I don't recall for sure. I do recall that one of the freebie Duraforce units out back was a leaker though. Coils I haven't had to deal with so much - yet. The one I picked up last could be my start though, as it was said there's an 'ignition issue'. We'll see.
Check out the Honda-powered staggered deck I picked up It doesn't work as intended though. I was excited when I picked it up and wondered how it was achieved, well.. it wasn't so much. It's a Frankenstein that doesn't function properly, a work in progress maybe. The guy I picked it up from got it from a passed relative who was into mowers. He was the only one remotely interested in mowers in the family so they contacted him to see if he wanted to buy them from the estate and he did. He either didn't know WTF was going on though, or tried to play it off, because the first thing I asked was "Who swapped this motor onto the deck then, you or the deceased?" and he was like "What do you mean? That's the factory motor", to which I laughed and told 'em that no, that motor is from an early 2000's LB and has been swapped onto this deck. It ran great but didn't propel like it was supposed to, there's some cobbling going on there between the motor and trans. The Honda ran/runs good though and I got it semi-cheap. Figured I'd use the motor on another deck or something, but haven't gotten to that point yet.

That was a combo I actually contemplated building when I had a 22" "lawn boy" (green toro), I thought about putting the engine on a staggered deck, I know they pulley is the same diameter as stock but didn't check and see if the width of the belt is different, maybe that is where your sp issue is coming from. I bought one of the new 21" "atomic" blades for one of the new lawnboys to use on my conversion, as it is a direct match for the blade adapter and I was curious as to the mulching abilities of the atomic blade on the staggered deck. The only real flaw to a Honda motor on these things is that I don't think a bagger can fit in there next to the muffler. It might be a pretty nice machine if you can get the sp set up right.

The 10323 I had a couple years ago was my favorite duraforce, I used it until the output shaft bushings wore all the way through and finally retired it after the deck cracked in 4 different places. The df steel decks just don't seem to hold up that well, as I scrape under my mower after every mow and never let grass accumulate. I agree about the 10247 push model being less than desirable, my brother had one for a while that we ended up using as a donor when his 22261 broke a rod. Weight wise you can't do better than the 19" F, but best wishes for a quick recovery so you can get back to your backyard mower.

Those were the final steel deck staggered wheel lawnboys ever made, they were sold in 03 and 04 but I can tell by the front decal on yours that it is a final year production model. I had one earlier this year that I gave to a friend who complained about the cut quality, and sold it instead of sharpening the blade. They made them with regular single speed sp and with easy stride, which is the rarer variant. Not really my cup of tea, but lightweight and decently powerful for a 4 stroker.

And evidently a regular variable speed 10360, and a push version of which IDK the model # yet.

I see those on a semi-regular basis on my local CL.. 10356 57 & 58. Not as much as an F or Duraforce, but they pop up here-n-there.
