Talking 5023 Lawnboy Bricktop On Off Switch Intermittent

Hi all! Just looking for opinions here. My 5023 Bricktop has been getting hard to shut off. I have to wiggle the on off switch until I find the magic spot to ground the ignition. I had it apart today and cleaned and wire brushed everything and then sprayed the contacts with tuner cleaner. Still intermittent. Do I need to replace the screw that goes into the armature plate? Could it be worn down? How about the blade on the on off switch? All looks okay but it should shut off much easier than having to mess with it to find the sweet spot. Thoughts? Bill

Re: 5023 Lawnboy Bricktop On Off Switch Intermittent

I’ve had that problem in the past as well. Never had to replace screw or contact. Just a good cleaning with a medium grade steel wool. How’s the condition of the wire? Is it stiff/hard. I’ve had one of them go bad before. It was brittle and the copper inside actually wore and broke apart causing an intermittent issue as well. Likely from the vibration and just age. When I took the wire out the plastic insulation broke apart very easily just by bending it.

Well I took the shroud and flywheel off, removed the grounding screw and wire brushed it thoroughly. Also filed and wire brushed the contact on the on/off switch. Seems to be working well at the moment. Insulation on the wire looks good. We'll see how it works in the longer run. Bill

Put small thin washer under screw head or replace screw.
