Going thru divorce-getting screwed of course.

As the title says, Iím going through divorce and have the tractor listed below. I have it at my new place but have been ordered by the court to return. Iíve been asked by my lawyer to get an estimate of value. Itís a Craftsman with a 24 horse with a 54Ē mower deck.
Can anyone help me put a value on it? Is there a website to go to and get a value like a car?
Model 917.204081. Serial 042417A002893. 81 hours on hour-meter. It needs fluid changes but otherwise looks near new.

Tractordata.com will give you what they cost new. You would have to figure depreciation from there and condition.

Current Machine JD 322

Former Machines: JD 318, JD 216, JD 212, 1965 JD 110

Re: Going thru divorce-getting screwed of course.

Boy I reckon getting screwed.
My wife could have cared less for my lawn mower in my divorce.
Stuff like that was never mentioned. Tools and etc.
Maybe I got luckier than I thought during my screwing.

You could go to a mower shop and asked them what they would sell it for if they had it on the floor.
The price that tractor data has is on the first page you see under production section.
Usually under manufacturer. Sometimes they don't have that info though.

Your best bet is to look at similar machines on the selling sites (Craigslist, eBay etc). It will give you a decent idea. Remember though, it depends on many factors.....condition etc....Location seems to vary too with prices

Been there. :-( You'll pay the attorney more than it's worth to enter it's worth.

Personally I'd tell him I don't have a clue, that's what I pay you for. As far as buying it from my ex I'd take it back to her and say here you can have it! Make her deal with it.

Re: Going thru divorce-getting screwed of course.

The tractor looks like brand new. Reallly looks good!
Iíd like to have the price as high as possible as half of it will be bought by her during the divorce.
As for me getting screwed? She has my son helping her now, he is 30 and still living at home with her.
She is counting sockets, wrenches you name it. Hell she even wants half of the birthday present my daughter got me! She is really nuts by all accounts. Weíll see as the big and final day is the 15th of next month.
Wish me luck.

Re: Going thru divorce-getting screwed of course.

No way to know value as it is so location dependent. My first take is that a garden machine loses about 50% from retail in the first year. If not 50, then at least one third.
The value continues to drop to the 'utilization' value, for 42" machines, ballpark is $500 which appears to not be vintage dependent. LOCALLY.
Some areas will be higher, some lower.
If you want a high value, ask an insurance agent ... they want it high to support a larger premium. If you want a lower value, ask a garden retailer what they will give outright, or in trade on a new machine(careful, as the trade may be inflated to cover a overinflated list price..).
There were craigslist search engines that would scan a region or the whole country and report available items that met the criteria. Dunno if they still are functional.

Re: Going thru divorce-getting screwed of course.

I think I speak for the rest of us that have been down this road we feel your pain! I'd say 500-700 off what you paid and give me half and be done with it. As for the sockets and smalls that's one ****** off ex you have, counter with all the clothes or kitchen stuff. However it turns out there life after divorce.
