That's really just because you called Sears. They know nothing. It is best to never contact the manufacturer about anything. I have had post for years on here where people insist on calling Kohler to ask something about a carburetor apart. Kohler doesn't make those carburetors so just forget about it. Go with the brand in the numbers off the carb or just look them up on eBay or Google it. But never asked to manufacture because even if they do have the information they want a fortune for they want to sell you the whole thing instead of just an individual part.

Tractorholic, take the broken Craftsman stuff to Lowes, and let them replace it.

List on ebay as 'brand new, in box(as applicable0' and sell for gas money.

They suck too! We had one just a couple of miles away from me and one time I messed up and someone giving me a gas grill... I thought since it was free I would go ahead and replace the burner. So I called the number and they had in the stock. I paid $32 for an H burner that I could have bought at Meijer or Walmart for $12.
You should almost never buy parts from the manufacturer. Same with MTD and Troy-Bilt and Cub Cadet. I get people every week that want to call MTD in Cleveland since we're in Ohio and order parts. All they're doing is paying a lot more for them and paying a lot more shipping and handling. Absolutely crazy.

I may try that before tossing them out..if I can get Kobalt ratchets in place of the Craftsman I'd take them and keep them,I have zero complaints with that brand...

I would love to do that too. Maybe they will give us merchandise credit and we can just buy the Kobalt.
That would be great since they are cheaper than the Craftsmans.

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

Lowe's seems to have less and less Kobalt stuff every time I go there, which I'm bummed about because I really like their quality (and my favorite color happens to be blue).

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

I asked a sales clerk at Lowe's if they were going to drop the Kobalt tools after taking over Craftsman,he assured me they were not--but I don't believe him !..

This was when I was thinking of buying a rolling tool chest there, and I had liked one Kobalt one they had, which was no longer there..last time I went there a few weeks ago,all I saw was Craftsman tool chests ,I didn't look to see if any Kobalt tools were still on display though..

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

I would love to swap my Craftsman's out for Kobalt too. Maybe they will give us merchandise credit and I can just buy the obalts. That would be wonderful as the Kobalt are all cheaper anyway.

I think you will see more kobalt stuff return in the future. Right now it's their new baby so they have to kind of push it. Also, since the prices on everything Craftsman are higher than kobalt you have to just have the Craftsman the store so people will buy the overpriced ones. After this Christmas when sales are abysmal compared to what they sold previously with their kobalt they will slowly start to move more and more kobalt back in. I would not be surprised if they don't severely limit their Craftsman products or even stopped carrying them in the future.

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

I'm not surprised (and have seen the same) with respect to the tool boxes. Right before Craftsman moved in, they put all the Kobalt truck boxes on clearance. I was thinking they were just updating the models, had no idea all they'd be carrying now is the Craftsman line.

I was wishing they'd do the same with the rolling boxes so I could buy one, but they never did at the stores near me. They sold those off slowly at full price.

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

The store close to me never seems to have much on "clearance" other than a few rolling shelves of various things not many people buy much of..never anything desirable like a tool chest, pressure washer,etc--things I've been wanting, but am unwilling to pay full price for..

I will likely go with a "U.S. General" Harbor Freight tool chest ,I like them and many others I know who bought them say they are actually good quality for the price..
I do not need or want a costly Snap-On or tool truck brand, even used, unless it was really cheap..I won't be using my tools that much to justify the expense ..

There is a Harbor Freight store coming to my town soon, they purchased a former "Benny's" Home & Auto department store and are in the process of renovating the building..they already bought another old Benny's in Wareham MA and have it open for several months now too..

I have heard they plan to rent out some of the building in my town--I don't see how,it isn't that big really, and even the whole store wouldn't be able to hold half of what Harbor Freight sells,so I suppose it may end up being an "outlet" store you can go order items from and get the next day or something ?...the other three stores 15 miles away in other towns are big,one is in a former movie theater, big as a warehouse..

There is a huge Galleria Mall that's practically empty 3 miles away, why they didn't lease the old Sears store or one of the other big stores that pulled out of there I don't know..maybe the rent is too high...but a HF store that's too small and doesn't have half what they sell on hand will likely not do well and probably go belly up ..

Craftsman better do something about the drawers on their new boxes...They are terrible to open.
I mean way too hard to pull out.

Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?

Tractorholic, check out struggleville.net for HF coupons you can print and use. I bought their rollaround box with 4 drawers:

US GENERAL 30″ 4 DRAWER TECH CART EXPIRES 7/18/19 64818 64096 $107.99

Coupon here:
US GENERAL 30? 4 DRAWER TECH CART ? EXPIRES 7/18/19 ? 64818 64096 ? $107.99 ? Struggleville

Fifty two bucks off their suggested price. The top has pneumatic struts to hold it open, and when closed, locks the drawers. Not too sure I need to lock, but that's how it's made. I think it is pretty sturdy and plan to use it in the garage, where the work is, and stock with tools from the basement, where the tools are. Ask my wife why they are not in the garage.

They have another cart/chest that's similar for a few dollars less with coupon.
US GENERAL 30? BULK STORAGE TECH CART ? EXPIRES 10/17/19 ? 64002 ? $99.99 ? Struggleville
30" Bulk Storage cart for $99 with coupon.
About $10 off. Seems adding a drawer past having 4 can cost a pile, but adding 4 is relatively cheap.
You can find HF coupons, and the 'best available price' on the 'HF Coupon Database' web site:
Harbor Freight Tools Coupon Database - Free coupons, 25 percent off coupons, 20 percent off coupons, No Purchase Required coupons, toolbox coupons

I think some have printed the 'members only' coupons and redeemed successfully, depending on the store & cashier.
If you are in the market, definitely worth the time to explore these two places a bit.

Malls at one time were THE place for shopping and it seemed that every one had a Sears, or a Penney's. But over the years, malls have become eyesores as the area changed around them, usually downward. But that also depends on where the mall was located and the stores it contained. Cherry Creek mall in Denver has high end stores in a high end neighborhood. Sears had a store across the street that had been in business since 1954, well before the mall was ever conceived. That Sears closed it's doors in 2015.
