Re: What is the status of Sears as a retailer?
The store close to me never seems to have much on "clearance" other than a few rolling shelves of various things not many people buy much of..never anything desirable like a tool chest, pressure washer,etc--things I've been wanting, but am unwilling to pay full price for..
I will likely go with a "U.S. General" Harbor Freight tool chest ,I like them and many others I know who bought them say they are actually good quality for the price..
I do not need or want a costly Snap-On or tool truck brand, even used, unless it was really cheap..I won't be using my tools that much to justify the expense ..
There is a Harbor Freight store coming to my town soon, they purchased a former "Benny's" Home & Auto department store and are in the process of renovating the building..they already bought another old Benny's in Wareham MA and have it open for several months now too..
I have heard they plan to rent out some of the building in my town--I don't see how,it isn't that big really, and even the whole store wouldn't be able to hold half of what Harbor Freight sells,so I suppose it may end up being an "outlet" store you can go order items from and get the next day or something ?...the other three stores 15 miles away in other towns are big,one is in a former movie theater, big as a warehouse..
There is a huge Galleria Mall that's practically empty 3 miles away, why they didn't lease the old Sears store or one of the other big stores that pulled out of there I don't know..maybe the rent is too high...but a HF store that's too small and doesn't have half what they sell on hand will likely not do well and probably go belly up ..
