Re: Engine spins but wont start help

so what the heck ever happened with this guy?

Did he get it going?

He already had spark... he confirmed that.
All he had to do was spray carb cleaner into the intake while spinning the engine over to see if it started and ran for a few seconds like someone already suggested.

This was a crazy thread with nothing but a dead end.

I was waiting for the carb parts to come and they did. So I swapped out the o-rings, gaskets, float and needle.
Now I have a new problem.
I put the lever to Choke and it actually started right up. After 15 seconds or so I put the lever into full throttle and it just shut off on me. I cant imagine why it would just shut off all the sudden. I checked the linkages and I can feel the choke valve open and close when I move the lever.
My air filter is a bit old but it still looks in decent condition. Will an old air filter cause this issue? I would think not since it seems to run on with choke on.

This is my choke control...

Re: Engine spins but wont start help

I may have found something but Im not sure...
This first pic you can see the choke rod up against the lever. This is with mower in choke position....

Now in this pic I moved the lever from choke position to full throttle position and you can see how much the rod has moved from the lever...

In this last pic I moved the lever all the way to turtle then back to full throttle, However you can see a big difference in the position of the rod and lever from the second pic...

Im thinking this lever is not going back to its correct position. What do you guys think?

It's hard to tell without actually being there..
When you installed the new needle did you bend the tab in anyway that the bottom of the needle rests on?

Because if you did then the fuel bowl is not filling all the way up with fuel.

If the motor runs without issues with the choke on or half on then it seems you still have a shortage of fuel.

You might lubricate EVERYthing in that area. Perhaps spray lubricant (PB blaster) work it in well and then a light oil for lasting results. It sounds like the choke isn't releasing and it's flooding out.

In use:

Re: Engine spins but wont start help

Here's something else you can do even though you've used air pressure to clean the carb.

On the side of the carb there should be an idle mixture screw.

Turn the screw in with a screw driver until it is fully closed.. (all the way screwed in)
COUNT THE TURNS of your screw driver so you know where to put the adjustment screw later..

Once you've counted the turns.. usually 1 1/2 turns in to fully closed... REMOVE THE SCREW entirely.
There's a little spring and gasket/o ring on the screw, be careful not to loose them when removing the screw.

Now get your air compressor fired up.. spray some carb cleaner into the little screw hole then blast it with air pressure big time.

install the adjustment screw back in and see if what you did accomplished anything.

Re: Engine spins but wont start help

I dont think I bent anything, it was really hard plastic.
Yes it stays running only in choke. It does appear that lever is not going back all the way when in full throttle. But even if I manually pull the lever back so its at 3/4 throttle and choke is not stuck , it still shuts off. At one point it seemed to backfire a bit, I saw some smoke around the exhaust and it just shut off.

I took the mechanism off and it was pretty clean and all parts moved freely and was thinking of putting lube but it will probably just get filled with dirt very quick if I did that.

Idk I feel like this is something small and just cant figure it out.

Is this what he is talkin about? The black plastic in front of the idle speed screw? I think this is idle mixture screw under the plastic.

have u had the flywheel bolt off to check the aluminum key for the flywheel.. if it has any marks of a possible part sheer.. the timing of the engine may b off..
