I also have driven off the freeway and onto a ramp or better yet a gas station next to a freeway myself at least once with my old Buick and once had a elderly gentleman in a older Chevy pickup had the thread separate on a tire (it still held air) and he was able to get to a gas station next to the freeway. I helped him change the tire in the parking lot of that gas station.

Re: Wife Wanted Me Out of the House, So Off to the Garage and Clean it Out

I went shopping in antique stores today. Only hit about three of them and on the third on I found a old Boeing News Magazine. It was documenting what was going on at Boeing at the time.

A bit of a history for you my grandfather on mothers side was employed at Boeing from 1932 to 1964 when he retired from the company. He could not serve in the military as he was blinded in his left eye when he was a child so he served in the wartime plants all through the war and long after. Additional facts is my mothers brother worked at Boeing from 1958 to 1995 or 1998, I am not sure of his retirement as he did not tell us when he retired. I also worked there from 1987 until 2017 when I retired from there, so my family actually has deep ties there. My grandfather worked in Seattle as a metallurgist, my Uncle worked in the paint shops in Seattle and the Everett paint shops and I worked in the factory in Everett.

I scanned the April 1944 edition of the magazine and it is below. Hope you folks find it interesting.

Re: Wife Wanted Me Out of the House, So Off to the Garage and Clean it Out

I had a busy day and it was run 20 miles north and pick up a wheel and rear bumper for my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500. I then went to to the tire local tire store and had a new tire, valve stem and balance done to the wheel. Once that was done I went home and started to work. First thing was to take the old spare tire out of the under bed carrier and move to the other truck and put it in the bed for now, I then scrubbed the replacement spare tie and wheel and polished the chrome. I then put the new replacement spare into the tire carrier and of course I get dust all over the tire.

I now one item completed and I thought about it and I started up the air compressor after thinking I might not do the dented up bumper but then I said oh the heck with it I am not tired and I want something to do. I then tore into the old bumper and removed it and then cleaned where the bumper goes on the truck body and rear frame and prepped the new bumper by scrubbing and applying a coat of wax, then onto the truck the replacement junkyard bumper went on the truck.

Once finished with the replacement bumper I then went back to dented bumper and removed the brackets and plastic from it has I want to save the plastic parts for if I ever damage the plastic on the truck I simply pop the damaged plastic off and install it on the truck and I have it on hand.

Re: Wife Wanted Me Out of the House, So Off to the Garage and Clean it Out

Well that was a first for me today. I was using my X590 to mow my pasture and I got it stuck. Well time to get out my big dog the 2305 and I pulled the X590 out of the spot it was stuck and then decided to use to the 2305 to mow the pasture. The X590 did not even get on half of a pass done when it got stucked so I just put my 2305 in 4WD and mowed a very wet pasture. I had no choice as the weather is suppose to return to rain by Monday anyway so I got it done as the grass was already almost 10" tall in the pasture.

Tomorrow I clean up the tractors as I had another project waiting in the wings and that is pressure was the newer garage concrete approach as it has been three years and the cement pad was looking pretty bad.

I bought that 1966 Ford Falcon base model in the background 4 years ago and it has the original 200 CID straight six (I rebuilt the engine 3 years ago) and three on the tree all operating correctly. I have to take the gas tank out in the near future as the gasoline pickup tube has broken and I also have to replace all the gas lines in it as they are 53 years old and I have a line coming out of the tank leaking. I mainly have been showing the car at car shows until this year and since I have all the work to do on it I will not be showing it this year.

I will not even think of changing the engine to a 260 or 289 CID V8 as that would destroy it originality.

Very nice! I'm watching a 2305 on CL near me. No backhoe, unfortunately. How often do you use your backhoe, and how strong is it? What kind of projects have you used it for?

I bought my 2305 ten years ago new and wanted the backhoe as I projects that made it cheaper then renting as I did a trenches from the front of my property to the back of my property and installed French drains. The first year I have used it extensively as it was the tool I needed to complete the projects. I use the backhoe now for a few projects such as digging out tree roots abet slowly and not as often I did when I first bought it. I did do a realignment of the main ditch on the south side of my property last year as it was getting to close to the neighbors driveway because of erosion.

For most folks a backhoe is really not needed and renting a true backhoe would make more sense as the backhoe is not the strongest but is good for the projects I have used it for. I can easily dig a simple trench and dig out root balls I don't use it often but when I do need it it works great as it saves me a lot of time not having to rent to do the project I am doing.

Re: Wife Wanted Me Out of the House, So Off to the Garage and Clean it Out

Makes sense, thanks. The 2305 near me has a loader and 62-inch deck. It looks very clean, is supposed to have under 200 hours, but the deck looks like it's been bashed a number of times.

I really need a backhoe, at least for a year. After that, I could probably find small jobs for it occasionally. Pretty convinced that I need to buy a Terramite, then sell it after I get the big projects done, and buy a tractor with loader and 3-point capability. A small backhoe attachment at that point would be a nice option.

Re: Wife Wanted Me Out of the House, So Off to the Garage and Clean it Out

The backhoe attachment adds about 2-3K to the used value of the tractor some folks seem to think that it is gold plated with magic pixie dust when they are pricing them for the used market as when I bought mine new it was $4500.00 extra. I saw one that the guy wanted 5K in addition to the value of his tractor. The guy has tried to sell it for the last two years without anyone really biting on it as he has had it listed on CL many times. He just needs to reduce the price.

These are very hard to find around here and most are rusted beyond anything I would want tackle. A friend that passed away a few yrs ago started collecting every model of a 65 Falcon made when he was still a young man. He had a very sweet convertible, two and four door sedans plus a wagon, all were nicely restored. When I met him in high school he had a 60 Falcon wagon he swapped a 289 in. He had a V8 Falcon before Ford sold them.

mike---- that little Terramite would be the ldeal thing--but they are very scarce around here. I used one years ago when I worked P/T for a tree service--and it was a nice machine. The only other one I'm aware of in this local----belongs to a rental center that I pass by sometimes--and it's sitting out in the same spot all the time--maybe no one use s it??

There have been none in the area for a while. There were a few within a day's round-trip, but those seem to be gone. I guess this is the right time of year to sell!
