A 268H in my future?
I am looking to replace my ailing Husqvarna mower (a big box YTH22 model with a Kohler Courage and 46" deck).
I have a bit over 2.5 acres to mow; there are areas around the house that are nicer and flatish (but not like anything in a Turf commercial), but the rest of it is tamed agricultural land (i.e. not smooth). There are some hills and not always the best traction, so the Husky had a hard time going up the hill sometimes if the grass was not dry. I also use a utility trailer to haul rocks, dirt, and other stuff for garden/landscape work on our property.
I've been looking at new for around $3.5 K, or good used garden tractors. For new, in my area (rural upstate NY), there's not a lot of choice outside of the big box stores. There are dealers that carry John Deer, Husqvarna, Simplicity, Honda, and everyone else trying to tell me I want a zero turn mower. I've decided that if I get new, it won't be a zero turn. Most likely, I'd get the Husqvarna 354D or something similar.
So, this brings me to the used ... I've recently looked at a Toro / Wheel Horse 268H (unknown vintage, but estimated about 10 or so years old). I'm wondering if this is worthy of consideration for my needs, and if the price, $900 is reasonable.
The model plate on the mower says:
Model Number 72087
Serial Number 210000818
The seller has put new tires and wheels on it, blades, bearings in the mower deck, mower belt (drive belt about 4 years ago). It's been well maintained, so other than the seat being worn, it's in great shape.
Is this a machine that would fit my needs?
Would I be better off looking for something else in this price range?
Any suggestions/thoughts are welcome and appreciated.
