X 485 Fuel Injector Problem?

Hello;

I have a 2003 JD and have a fuel problems with it, maybe the injectors?

Is there a reasonable life expectancy on this part, and also the computer?

When starting hot, if you take off the air cleaner off and spray ether in it, she will fire right up. Trying to get this nailed down before winter.

Looking for a way to test them. Already ran the one test to see if they "click" and yes they both are .

All the best

Re: X 485 Fuel Injector Problem?

I wonder if John Deere going to a solid fuel cap on tractors like x720 helped keep fuel pressure so the fuel would not vaporize like the X485s

Burned;

Are you saying that a gas cap modification to the X 485 will make things right?

Re: X 485 Fuel Injector Problem?

The x4 and x5's had alot of problems with the fuel pump hose coming loose or off. Plus theres a filter at the end of that hose in the tank that can cause problems. My old x485 had the filter break loose. I thought all the caps were vented but i could be wrong.

Im not going to say that, it just makes me wonder if it helps, when I shut off my 485 Id raise the hood for the heat would escape and not heat up the fuel

The vibration makes the fitting come loose out of the fuel filter assembly. Same thing happened on my X495..........It's about $60 to replace the whole thing, comes with a filter also. Easy fix.

Re: X 485 Fuel Injector Problem?

I had a 2005 X485. Got it with 33 hours on it and two years old. It developed an intermittent miss. You could not get off the tractor to diagnose it. Yes, I also noticed the harder to start after running. Raising the hood would cure that irritation. So I could stop for lunch and not have it stumbling for a couple minutes.

I checked the short hose on the fuel pump. Replaced the fuel pump which comes with a screen filter. That was pricey. Changed plugs and fuel filters a number of times. Pulled apart all connections, cleaned and greased them. Adjusted valves. Blew air through the fuel cap. Always used Stabil.

Finally lost spark on one side at 800 hours. Replaced & gapped the ignition coils. Ran perfectly smooth and made good power. The new coils are marked 1 & 2. They are not interchangeable.

Neighbor talked me out of the X485 and I bought a low hour X750 diesel.
