GX345 gauge wheel arms??

Greetings!
I have a GX345 with a 54C deck that I bought used about 4 years ago. I don't know what year, but it is pre locking differential.

When I bought it, the front gauge wheels were already kinda sloppy and the RF one recently popped off while mowing my ditch. Both front arm axles are worn very flat on the bottom. I have them set the recommended 1/2" above the ground so suspect the previous owner may have run them on the ground.

Unfortunately the deck's S/N P/N sticker is mostly destroyed. When I look at JD online parts diagrams, it appears the GX345 went through two 54C p/n iterations and the 2nd iteration went through another two arm p/n iterations. Since the left and right arms are two different p/n's that makes three possible pairs if I'm reading it right.

Assuming the deck is the original, is there any way to determine the deck version and arm p/n's from the tractor s/n?

Also, since no matter which arms, they're kinda pricey, has anyone ever tried drilling out the axles and converting them over to the LR bushing on an ordinary bolt? If so, is the bolt 8mm?

Regards,
Stratman

Re: GX345 gauge wheel arms??

I have drilled out the old axels and put bolts in their place. It really doesn't matter what wheels you use since none of them run on the ground continually. I recently put a blurb on this forum about how I use 1/2 electrical conduit to fit over the axels and then drill the wheel out to fit the conduit. It will tighten them up for a while if you keep them greased.

If you could post a picture of your deck/gage wheel arms, then we might be able to help pinpoint it better.
