HELP! Which mower deck to get with my X350

Hi All,
Buying a new JD X350 soon. I will only be mulching with it (I think).
I have a width limitation in the tractor storage shed.

Does anyone know the overall width of the 42" Edge Mulch Mower Deck (42M)?

If just mulching your thoughts on the 42M vs the 42A with the mulching kit?

I know the 42A, Accel Deep Mower Deck, has plastic cover over the pulleys and the 42M has no side discharge and may be a little narrower but I don't know how much which is why I need the width measurement of the 42M.
For me, narrower is better

Cost wise its about a wash. The 42A has zerk fittings on the spindles and the 42M says it has greaseable spindles, not sure if it has zerks or not. Both decks are made of 12 gauge steel and they both have wash ports.
The 42A has 4 wheels on the deck while the 42M only has 2, and I don't know if that really makes a difference. Also would like to know if the build quality and design is similar?

Thanks so much for whatever help you can give, this is a big investment for me and I want to get it right.

Most shed doors are 5' wide. Measure yours and if they open to 5' you'll just fine. Also check the gates and openings around your house. Again 5' is a good number, but a 350 with a 42" deck should fit through a 48" opening with ease.

And buy the 42A deck.

John Deere X738 4wd
Front hydraulics and quicktach mount
54" front blade and 3 point hitch
48" mower deck
48" roller, 48" York rake, de-thatcher, aerator, 48" box blade
15HP 5" PowerKing chipper, JD 125# electric spreader
Assortment of sleeve hitch adapters, 3500# hitch mounted winch

Kubota G2000-S 52" deck, 21HP 3 cylinder gas, hydraulic lift

With some modifications and long term thinking in mind. You could cut cubby/pet doors to allow the bigger deck into your shed or get a roll up door with motor and a remote control. Then if you have gates, those could widen also since you will want to auto opening and closing so you don't have to get off the tractor.

My Tractor shed opening is only 48" wide.

The other issue again is get the 42A accel Deep deck with the mulch kit or the 42M Edge Mulch Mower Deck?

Tell me why the 42A and I assume you mean to add the mulch kit to it.
Thanks for the help

Keep in mind that decks with two wheels can scalp the ground easily.
I would recommend the deck with 4 gauge wheels.
You know your property so judgment call.

Re: HELP! Which mower deck to get with my X350

I'm not even aware of this 42M mower deck... Is that the X350R with the rear bagger?

The 42A mower deck is just over 50" wide with the deflector in place, and around 45" wide with that held up or removed.

I like the mulch kit on the 42A.

That's not really correct. The reason why the bigger decks have extra wheels is because they extend out beyond the width of the tractor.

I thought this at first also but now have to respectfully disagree after using both. Our property is not golf course smooth and I can't tell any difference between my old 2166 42" deck with 4 anti scalp wheels to my new XT3 42" deck with only 2 due to the bigger rear tires. I do keep both decks properly leveled and correct tire air pressure which makes a big difference.
Btw, I really prefer a 42" deck especially at my age and health as they're easier to remove, service, install, have fewer blades to keep up and gives me the nicest cut of any width deck I have ever used; just saying.

The 42M is not the X350R with the rear bagger, it is a pretty rare animal that only mulches, has no side output and only has 2 wheels, I believe it is slightly narrower than the standard side output 42A deck.
I'm trying to find out the actual width of the 42M as I have a very narrow door in my tractor shed.
Also trying to figure out which would be best for me who will only be mulching: a 42M mulching deck or a 42A deck with the added mulching kit.

Re: HELP! Which mower deck to get with my X350

I do have to agree on the cut of 42 decks.
When I had less to cut I always had machines with 42" decks.
They do cut nice and I miss that, but with 3 acres had to make changes for the bigger.
I had an X324 back in 08 and It sure cut good.
I actually offed that one because the 4 wheel steer drove me nuts.
Couldn't drive a straight line in 250ft.
And the back tire climbing fences and the house or whatever else you turned away from.
Good luck with whichever way you go.

Hey I do understand that. I mow 2 acres and my old Cub as slow as it is takes 3-4 hrs. to mow everything. The new XT3 is light years faster and it only takes 2.2 hrs. to mow the same area. There are places I still use the old Cub so by the time I swap out tractors, finish mowing then blow both off with a leaf blower before putting them up I'm still looking at 2.5 -3 hrs. where as with a 48" deck it would probably reduce the seat time by a good 20-30 minutes.

Just out of curiosity, rudedawg, are you mulching or are you side discharging/bagging those 2 acres?

Sorry, but that's just not accurate. The wheels are to prevent scalping, not because the deck is wider than the tractor. You can also purchase a 5th wheel for use center front to add additional scalping prevention. Even very small decks should have anti scalp wheels, but most don't because it raises the cost of a machine generally aimed at entry level users.
