110 square fender drains the battery.

Morning all, I have a buddy who has a 110 square fender with a 10 horse kohler in it. He said he had the battery on a trickle charger for a few days, put it back in the tractor, ran it for 5 minutes, shut it off to tune the carb which took roughly 10 minutes and after that it wouldn't start. He said he put the battery back on the charger for a day the tractor started just fine, he ran it around for about 15 minutes or so then shut it off. About 30 minutes later the battery was stone dead again. Does he have a short somewhere causing the battery to drain right away? I have never had my hands on a 110 before, nor have I had a chance to look at this one in person yet. Anyone experienced this before on their 110 square fenders?

Bad battery, charging system not working, voltage regulator bad and other. You really need to do a diagnosis before you start replacing parts. Roger

So my buddy decided to just buy a voltage regulator and it seems to of fixed it. Start right up, and holds a charge.

Always nice to get lucky with the first choice. Roger

It is a logical choice because an internal short in the regulator would most likely provide a path for the voltage to go to ground. I wonder if it was warm to the touch when hooked up to the charger?

I am not exactly sure if he removed the battery and then placed it on the charger or how he did it. I was going to tell him to start with the regulator but didn't want him tossing money at random parts.
