broken steering wheel

how do i get the remains off? i got the wheel off but the metal part is still on there. i looks like a 1 and 1/8 in nut and i got the pin out and soaked everything in pb blaster. this is on a john deere 111 made back in the 80's

With my 210 Deere, I took a die grinder and cut a slot in the side of the left over metal chunk, then took a chisel to spread it open and remove it
