Missed an opportunity

My neighbor collects JD equipment, mostly the big stuff (his pride and joy is a 1921 Waterloo Boy!), but he has a nice RF he had restored and uses a 420 for snow blowing. His health has not been great so I've been helping with the snow removal the past couple of years (with my LA165) and he's had someone plowing as well. He just told me today that he gave away the 420 (with hard cab!!!) because it was in rough shape. I could not have restored it myself but I would have gladly bought it from him and put some money into it. I'm so bummed out right now! My cousin sold a 68(?) patio 20 years ago (before I knew what they were) and now this - ugh!!!

It never hurts if you see a machine a friend or family has to just say, "if you ever decide to get rid of that, please keep me in mind!"

Yes what he said. And I would ask him who he gave it to and let them know you are interested in buying it if they ever consider getting rid of it.

This happened to me with our homemade log splitter. My dad made it in the 70s out of a scrap I-beam from work and an old Wisconsin engine.

He used it every year for decades; we sold firewood. I split a lot of wood on that thing. I told him if he decides to sell it to let me know and I will buy it. To which he said I would give it to you.

Couple years passed and he stopped burning wood and he told me had sold it.

I was a little bumbed but wasn't going to say anything because it was just "stuff" and he is my dad.

I know he just forgot he promised it to me.

I don't even burn wood I just wanted it because it had so many memories attached to it.

Agree - we do have just such an agreement about the acre of land he owns next to me. He would still jump on the 420 a couple of times a year so I never thought about it, unfortunately.

I think he was a bit embarrassed to tell me but his wife told me the guy they gave it to immediately sold it.
