3 PH adjustable side links - can you use chain ?

Hello I have pieced together a 3 PH for my 332 . But the adjustable side links that I purchased used are from a Cub Cadet and they do not have a swivel eyelet on one end so they don't spread far enough apart . I can purchase swivel eyelets and weld them on OR I was thinking of just using chain . I will still be using stabilizer chains and a solid adjustable top link . Does anyone see an issue using chain for the side links ? I will be mainly using a weight box and a boom pole on the 3 PH .

Re: 3 PH adjustable side links - can you use chain ?

The 3-pt that I have came from a 140. I believe it's all original and has chains connected to the side arms. There's an open hook on each arm and the chain drops in/on. There's also a turnbuckle that you can tighten, if needed/wanted. I've got both Cat 0 & 1 implements that I mount and simply change a link to accommodate the different widths. There's typically not a lot of side load on the arms, so a 3/16 chain should work fine.

Take a look at JDParts and search "314" Click on '3-pt lower draft arms' and it'll show the chains. Bob

RW it sounds like the chains you are talking about are the stabilizer chains that limit side to side sway . I'm talking about the adjustable links that lift and lower the lower arms . But I have decided to just go ahead and order CAT 0 swivel ends and I will weld them on my existing links . Thanks anyway

Richard, You mentioned on WFM (??) that your 3-pt will be used for a boom & weight box. You never know what else you may use the hitch for! For the vertical adjustment links, MAKE SURE you use something flexible...with no down pressure. If you've got, let's say a tiller or back blade...or any ground engaging equipment...when you go over a hump/lump, your equipment will pull out of the ground, nothing you can do about that. BUT, when the equipment hits that lump, it can lift the rear of the tractor off of the ground...if you have a rigid vertical link. Set it up once! Bob
