OEM Shock Absorber for K71 on GT235

I needed a new shock absorber for my GT trans and the JD shock part # is M808782. Price is $150-ish everywhere i looked. I took a chance on one from eBay with part number 192154-89150 for $30.

They are the same make, Stab-O-Shoc. When I got the eBay shock in the mail, i have a good one from another K71 that came off a GT235 and compared the function and the physical attributes. They are identical.

I connected the eBay shock to my mower and it works the same.

So if anyone needs one of these, and don't want to pay for the flashy green and yellow one! 192154-89150 is identical from what i can tell...

Slightly related, how or what would make you have to get a new shock?

If while mowing, when you let off the forward or reverse pedal, if you come to an abrupt halt and not a smooth transfer, it is likely the shock absorber is kaput.

I just bought the Deere one a couple of weeks ago. More expensive than the shocks I put on my car, lol

Its nice to not be jerking - or gingerly lifting off the pedals.

for the $150 price, I've just been extra gentle on the speed control. For $30, I'll give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

Re: OEM Shock Absorber for K71 on GT235

I have 3 units with the K71 so I bought three of the $30 shocks a few months back. I've had to buy 2 from JD in the past for machines I no longer have so spending $90 for a lifetime supply was a no brainer Actually, now that I think about it, I offered $25 each for 3 and he took it.

I had been doing that most of last year when the JD version was $140 and I told myself itd be done the following spring considering the absurd amount they want for it. Had I waited just a few weeks longer I would have seen this post... I never thought to check eBay for a knock off. Put this one on the list of things not to tell my wife.

This isn't a knock off. Made by the same company, stamped right on the shock.

Yes, not a knock off. It's a 'salvage' deal or surplus auction or something like that. It's the same shock but for a different application with a couple of retaining spring clips that have to be popped off for use on the K71. Or at least the 3 I got had the retaining clips.

Or.... had you searched this forum using the Deere part number, you would have found the information when you needed it.

Honestly, I never shop around for this tractor. Its not because Im independently wealthy or anything, but Ive not had any issue paying for OE parts. Its one of the reasons I left my Bolens - JD supports old stuff. I may pay a little more, but I know its available and is going to be an exact replacement. Im also usually not taken back by parts costs for the tractor simply because my main hobby is automotive.

That said, this is a case where I would have gone with the cheaper option - its also a case that perpetrates the saying a fool and his money are soon parted

Also, the first new one from JD I bought was $75. Makes it tough when a few years later it's $125.
