Deere x304 stopped running, will not catch

Like a wide receiver on strike, it just stopped working.
As others have described I thought I ran out of gas, and then happened a 2nd time as I was about finished with 1st pass of yard.
At the end of last season I used the mower to mulch up leaves after sweeping up mowed yard, which created a huge amount of dust which coated the engine, which I thought may have something to do with it.

1st suspicion, out of gas, but I had just refilled it (gas is not old, been using tractor all winter for snow blowing).
Not it.
2nd suspicion, choking air filter, took the air hose to both filter and prefilter, I have seen FAR worse.
Not it
3rd suspicion, low oil??? not overly low but at low mark on dipstick, and that is looking sludgy, well it is just over 100 hours and due for service top with a few ounces and try.
Not it
4th suspicion, clogged fuel filter, again tractor is due for 100 hours service.
Off to the parts store, get the pieces replace and change all....

Observations during replacing filters:
1) fuel pump has a breather(?) on its face, which was caked w dust, seafoamed it clean.
2) tested for spark, its there looks strong
3) gas line seemed bone dry
4) sprayed some seafoam down air intake and hit ignition, engine didnt sputter.

With all replaced, tractor still turns over but will not catch.
There seems to be a small amount of gas getting into the gas filter (watching while trying to crank engine with cowl open) but I get the impression the gas line should be filled.

Any insights would be really appreciated, otherwise I am taking it in for service (we did buy JD 3 yr extended warranty) and out of commission for unknown period of time

Thanks!

Check the fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom of the carb bowl. It can fail in a numbers of ways. 1.) Pin is stuck from crappy fuel. 2.) Coil bad

Which engine? It was supplied with 2 different series with various sub numbers. you could use either jacksmallengine or kawasaki to get to the closes one. It would be between the cylinders where the exhaust ports/tubes to muffler are also.

Re: Deere x304 stopped running, will not catch

Russ, again thanks, I did not get so far as to check the fuel shutoff solenoid.
I had a thought that since the gas line itself seemed bone dry I should start earlier in the fuel system and went back to the replaced fuel filter.
Disconnected it, tok my sons balloon inflator and blew some air thru the line towards the fuel tank - hisssssss, not bubble bubble bubble.
I knew I had more than half a tank full, so immediately knew something is amiss in the tank itself.

Since the first stall happened and I refilled the tank, thinking it was out of gas and it restarted, and now I get hiss testing the line, filled the tank, cranked for 15 seconds, vroom vroom.

Diagnosis, wonked up connection within the tank itself.
I'll get to the tank to see if interior is accessible and locate where the disconnect is happening.

Update as progress occurs.

It seems to be one of the items to check on, when having fuel issues (the pickup falling off, or the pump falling apart (when it's in the tank))
