Hi everyone, second post.
I have access to 3 John Deere 525’s. One of them works great and is fast (engine speed and ground speed). The other two have slow engine and ground speeds. I can’t seem to figure out how to increase the engine speed without major surgery. Am I missing something simple. Engine hours between 500 and 1000, normal maintenance as far as I know. The slow engine speed equates to slow ground speed and time wasted (custom mowing). These mowers work great otherwise. Starting is somewhat poor (need lots of choke), but are great for trimming around trees, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kid

As far as I know, no one has ever worked on these machine's carburetors, or throttle cable linkages. I was able to adjust the governor a little (back to factory settings, I think) and that gained a little rpm and helped some. Also adjusted the cable from the 'forward' pedal to the tranny (adjusted the cable near the tranny, not at the pedal) and that also helped the ground speed, but still would like to get a little more rpm out of the motor. The rpm is 'fair' only on both, but both have plenty of power.
In a semi-related question: is there a fix for the slow reverse on these machines? Can't seem to find much info on that problem. It goes in reverse slowly, but if you grab a hold of the forward pedal and pull up/back, it will go nice and fast in reverse.
Thanks in advance,
Kid
