Look at the 3rd pic. We had one bigger than that slabbed in 2" sections. I got 3 Steve got 2. It cost $150. The last pic of the English walnut I want to cut a section of what is left and make a deep double bowl sink out of it.
Neighbor down the road has two dead Ash trees in his front yard. He dropped one of them about a month ago. I cut it up and hauled it home. My wife came out and helped me split and stack it. The other tree is still standing. If things get bad I'll cut it and process it as I can. I don't have help anymore. I had more help when I was younger and didn't need it as much. We will get by as long as the natural gas keeps flowing.
I tried using the furnace blower while burning wood but it cooled my house down too much. Stayed much warmer with it off.
I burnt white ash. I was not impressed with the way it burned. A tornado came through and dropped 5 trees on a guys property maple, oak, and white ash. I cut split stack it for a year then burnt it.
Yes that thought crossed my mind as my HVAC unit is a rooftop on piers next to the house with insulated ductwork outside then through the attic with a fresh air intake on it.
I have a collector over the flue pipe with 3 flex lines to vents in the bedrooms I was thinking about putting a fan on that to move some air also.
The HVAC last kicked on around 8AM it's been 43* most of the day outside but is now at 36* at 11:15. The house will retain the heat until around 3AM when the fire starts getting low then the HVAC will kick on and off in shoort bursts for a little until around 8AM again. It's working and we are saving money so............
You are right. Back when it didn't hurt to move, cut, split, load wood I had help. Now the kids are on their own and it's just my wife and I
(till her son moved back in) I was dreading cutting up splitting and loading the 4 cord out back. I feel so blessed that the guys are willing to help out for rent. I guess cutting, splitting, and loading wood with someone else's equipment is better than sleeping in your car when it's 20* outside.
Funny thing is my wife raised her kids the same way I raised mine. They are all good kids
(hers and mine) with a responsible attitude and work hard to help us out. No public utilities accept the electric so it's not costing us squat for them to stay here really. But they can get themselves back on track with money and I needed the help with all the troubles we've had in the last 3 months.
I truly feel blessed.
