Thanks MOD's for taking care of business and thanks TUDOR for the addendum to the title.
We all hope this will all come together completing the build and may we all gain some knowledge and appreciation for the friendships that have developed in the process.
Thanks also to MTF for the great opportunity they've given us to share our thoughts and ideas.

They split and stacked about a cord and a half today. As long as you keep the rain out there they can get another 1.5 cord split tomorrow also. But they are calling for rain AGAIN! 😪

We have a 98% chance of rain tomorrow, but only for one hour and then it diminishes by 10's to 0% again.
Nice day today after a cool night down to 30°.
I'm thinking of putting the lights up outside. My two whole strings of LED's came though they left the package at the top of the driveway so I didn't know it was there until last night.
I like the tiny bright white ones.

I always think the whole Xmas thing is about the lights; eat a good meal and light a lot of lights in the middle of the dark cold winter to help everyone keep sane until spring.

We're having more rain; still in severe drought but the pitter patter makes me feel all relaxed.
put pesticides on my palm trees, fixed a pump, and the central heat system today; hard to get new work done when the old work always needs doing first.

Keep warm and dry, everyone!

Yep, hope we all have warm dry shelter through the winter. I have some firewood to have some fires on the coldest days. Helps the furnace plus I like the fires. The last couple of winters I have quit heating with wood. Don't have what it takes to cut, split and stack it anymore. I've heated with wood for 45 years. The price of seasoned firewood has gone very high like everything else but it makes using natural gas cheaper than buying wood.

Look at the 3rd pic. We had one bigger than that slabbed in 2" sections. I got 3 Steve got 2. It cost $150. The last pic of the English walnut I want to cut a section of what is left and make a deep double bowl sink out of it.

Neighbor down the road has two dead Ash trees in his front yard. He dropped one of them about a month ago. I cut it up and hauled it home. My wife came out and helped me split and stack it. The other tree is still standing. If things get bad I'll cut it and process it as I can. I don't have help anymore. I had more help when I was younger and didn't need it as much. We will get by as long as the natural gas keeps flowing.
I tried using the furnace blower while burning wood but it cooled my house down too much. Stayed much warmer with it off.
I burnt white ash. I was not impressed with the way it burned. A tornado came through and dropped 5 trees on a guys property maple, oak, and white ash. I cut split stack it for a year then burnt it.
Yes that thought crossed my mind as my HVAC unit is a rooftop on piers next to the house with insulated ductwork outside then through the attic with a fresh air intake on it.
I have a collector over the flue pipe with 3 flex lines to vents in the bedrooms I was thinking about putting a fan on that to move some air also.
The HVAC last kicked on around 8AM it's been 43* most of the day outside but is now at 36* at 11:15. The house will retain the heat until around 3AM when the fire starts getting low then the HVAC will kick on and off in shoort bursts for a little until around 8AM again. It's working and we are saving money so............

You are right. Back when it didn't hurt to move, cut, split, load wood I had help. Now the kids are on their own and it's just my wife and I (till her son moved back in) I was dreading cutting up splitting and loading the 4 cord out back. I feel so blessed that the guys are willing to help out for rent. I guess cutting, splitting, and loading wood with someone else's equipment is better than sleeping in your car when it's 20* outside. ;)

Funny thing is my wife raised her kids the same way I raised mine. They are all good kids (hers and mine) with a responsible attitude and work hard to help us out. No public utilities accept the electric so it's not costing us squat for them to stay here really. But they can get themselves back on track with money and I needed the help with all the troubles we've had in the last 3 months.
I truly feel blessed.

Sounds like a win, win situation for everyone. Sounds like it came along at a good time also.

I have 2 Thermo-king 2cyl diesel engines out back I believe they are 14HP but I can't find any info on them. I've had plans for them on many things. But I never got there with them. 😪

But if I came up with a saw frame I will have diesel power to run it. 😁

My one thought was to use one for a generator power plant.

#10,066 ·
That's a nice size for a small diesel.
I never need to worry about having a mill, we don't have many trees nearby, especially anything like the ones in your pictures.
Speaking of, you should see the latest on Diesel Creek's channel.
A little Mitsubishi tractor he picked up.
He sure finds some sweet ones.

I seriously JUST got done watching that one! LOL....................... 🤣
They really are cool little tractors.
My neighbor has one that is 4x4 but he won't sell it or anything else I'm interested in.
His barn is collapsing and there is still stuff in it I offered to buy. Nope................... . 😪

Don't feel bad, I got stuck with a Husqvarna mower when I was supposed to be buying a garden tractor. Then was told I hadn't purchased the extended warranty when I told them I wanted to cancel it. I was so frustrated with the not the truth this support person at Big Box Store that starts with L and ends with S that I just hung up the phone even though I took screen shots of the bill of sale and she was the one who sold it to me. I realized she was doing what they paid her for, to not tell the truth. How do you go home and face your kids after a hard days work.
I guess some people could care less. Not how I was raised, in fact the complete opposite.

talk about buying chains for saws, care to buy a few for a stihl ms661c with a 36 inch bar? they are like 60 bucks each

that certain box store, yes they can be real bad, wife and i don't have cell phones they turned us down for a CC just because we didn't have one that they could call back to verifie who they were talking to while we stood at the store. WT ???

with a 36 inch bar?
36" bar!!??
OMG!! What in the world are you going to cut with that?
$60 bucks is about what we paid for the whole saw, well it was her saw, I don't have any use for them. I quit them when I quit cutting wood over 25 years ago. It was never any fun as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather have paid for a truck load than to cut it and it was only $35 - $45 a load. I'd guess it's a bit more than that now days.
I will be looking at the battery operated ones, they are supposed to be great for cutting channels in ICF's for running wiring, just need to add a wheel to set the depth in the hole at the end of the bar.

I was buying a cell phone thru my cable TV company but they wouldn't sell it to me because I refused to give them my Social Security number. I have been a customer for over 30 years.
They send me email twice a week making offers to cut my bill in half but they would likely want my SS number. Google didn't ask for anything other than a card number.

No need for a 36" chain. We rented a 36" stihl for that cherry/maple job and man neither of us could man handle that thing for more than an hr. Then one of the helper kids dug it into the ground and killed the chain. So we had to use my 20" and Steve's 18" to cut that maple that had a 36" base.
If we cut more trees down I would get an attachment for my tractor to split the wood that fit on the 3pt.
The guys did a little work yesterday. 😁 Whittling the pile down. Still a pile more to go.

YES Don it's raining again................ 😪

It's hard to imagine that wood splitter weighs 6,000 pounds more than my excavator!!!!
What a beast!!

Nicely stacked firewood.
It's a light rain situation here, the mountains around me got a lite dusting of the white stuff, the clouds break now and then and reflection off of the snow is blindingly bright. Not sure where it would land on Joe's Kelvin scale but its a little brighter than my 43" monitor.

It's been pretty mellow all day with just a little snow and only a couple inches forecast thru Tuesday.
Then I looked at the radar and saw this.

Ecoregion World Map Biome Font

and the forecast said snow to end at 6:45 PM.
They might have missed on that one, as the wind is picking up. Also a severe winter warning through Tuesday 4:00PM by the national weather service.

Thanks Tony!

Whatever I can do to help. 😁

I guess I can only give it to you for 2 days. Then they say we are getting it back for 2 days again........... 😕

Wow!!!!
Keep it coming!!!
Back in the 70's we would fly from what is now John Wayne Airport to Lake Tahoe for a week of skiing, it was not uncommon for there to be 12 - 16 feet of snow. It would be roof top level.
It was so different compared to the snow we were used to in the Southern California mountains where it was wet heavy snow. Up there it was dry light fluffy snow, so much easier to ski in. South Lake Tahoe is where the ski resorts are, not far from the pass.

We loved it and heard Utah was even better. Never made it there.
