Default Make your own Lawn mower Snow plow?

im thinking about getting a plow for my mower. but i had an idea. what if i cut a 55 gallon oil drum in half and welded some angle iron to it to make my own plow? anyone ever done this before?

Better off using an old hot water heater tank, air compressor tank,or a propane tank (but be careful cutting it,do NOT use a torch!--drill a starter hole and use a sawsall or sabre saw)..

The 35-55 gallon drums will work, but ARE very thin & flimsy and will need a beefy frame to surround it completely, its only good to "skin" the blade with--while the other tanks I mentioned are 1/8" to 3/16" thick and only need angle iron on the top, bottom and sides, the 55 gallon will need "ribs" in between too...you CAN make ribs from cut up car rims, but why go through all that work if you dont have too??..a section of a 275 gallon home heating oil tank is a good choice too, they are 3/16" thick..I have seen some nice plows made from large diameter pipe cut in half too..thick and heavy enough to need no reinforcing at all, just a push frame..

Using a saw or drill is putting you in danger as they have arcing at the brushes

To cut a tank first fill it with water and drain it then it is safe to cut

I did gulp the first time that I cut into a 500 gal tank with a cutting torch

guinell1, you can make a blade out of a 60 gallons hot water tank, just like the one I made...
see attached picture.
