Default Jim Dandy Tractor question

My father has a Power King Jim Dandy tractor. Im not sure of the year. We have to go pull it out of the back of the barn. He thinks it from the late 60's. My real question is about the rear wheels. This tractor has dual wheels on the back of it. I didn't know if that was an option on the tractor of if someone modified it. He was told it was used at a golf course in the 70's. He has owned it for almost 20 years now. It has a 12hp Kohler engine on it I do know that. I want to restore it and fix it up as the axle in the back broke a few years back.

When you dig it out, post the serial number of the tractor and I'll be able to tell you what year it is. Economys did have the optional dual rear wheels. I used to have them on mine at one time. I used to know the stock item number of the adapters but that's long gone now. Until you get the serial number, can you tell me some things about the tractor? I'm looking primarily for things like, which way does the hood open, what shape is the gas tank, things like that. Those will help me get close on the year. Post a picture if you can. Worth a thousand words as they say.

I know the hood opens(hinges) at the front of the tractor. I'm not sure of the gas tank shape. I'm going to my father this weekend to help him dig it out and take a look at it. I'll post a picture then.

If the hood hinges at the front, chances are it's a 73 or newer. It should just have the rectangular tank in the front, right behind the grill then.

Ok. I have the tractor at my house now and the serial number is 018690. It has a 12 hp kohler K301 model engine and the hood hinges from the rear and lifts up, not in the front like I orginally stated. Gas tank is square. Also my dad has an earlier Powerking not sure of year as it was my grandpas. I was told 1964, it is missing serial number and motor. It also had a 12hp engine on it or at least that is what the hood cover states and my uncle told me the gas tank was "L" shaped on that model and appears to have the same transmission and rear end as the one at my house. Any idea if the rear ends are interchangeable or the same? Reason being is I would like the use the it for parts.

Thanks

OK, that serial number puts your tractor at a 1969. Now, if your dad's has the L shaped gas tank, it's probably somewhere around a 1965 to a 68. I think they first used those tanks in 65. That's the year of the one in my avitar right now. It had an L shaped tank as well. in 64, the hoods were more rounded in the front and bolted on.

Yes, your dad's should be a suitable parts tractor for yours. Pretty much the same everything. If his had a 12hp, then it was closer to the 68 year. Sometimes they came through with the serial number scratched on the top of the frame uner the sheet metal where you left foot rests. If you have the sheet metal, you may want to check that.

Thanks for the info on the Power Kings. One last thing. Do you know of anywhere to get parts for these things, or a place to buy manuals. My dad was telling me of a guy somewhere in ohio who has basically a couple acres devoted of old Power kings for parts? Or is my best bet to try to adapt newer readily available parts?

Mission Manufacturing in Indiana owns the rights to Power King at this time. They do sell parts and implements for these tractors. Here's the kink to their site. http://www.powerkingtractor.com/

That said, I have a list of folks who sell used parts (and some new) on my work computer. I will make myself a note to send it to you the next time I am on that computer.

Yes, some of the earlier economys (1946 to 49 or 50) used Wisconsin engines, AEH and AEN I believe, then some used Briggs 23s, then mostly Kohler.

Thanks. I looked at the powerking tractor charts, couldn't find this serial listed. Think it's worth $500 ?
