I got a little careless yesterday. No permanent damage. 37 stitches. Chicks still dig scars, right?

A little careless??? That looks nasty. It's gonna hurt in the morning!!!
Glad it wasn't worse, as it easily could have been.

I was very lucky. Missed all tendons and nerves and didn't hit bone. Luckily I had two helpers with me, so help was there almost immediately.

Didn't hurt too much yesterday. Today is another story. Finally had to give in and take a vicadin about 2 hours ago

You got so lucky! That is a nasty wound though.

Please, for future's safety sake, invest in a pair of saw chaps. The next time, you may be so lucky.

You are very lucky. I am glad it was not any worse. I have ruined a good pair of jeans and got a scratch. Plum scary.

Pete
Any chance you could explain just how you did that? Myself I can learn from others mistakes, I guess that comes with age. Sure hope you heal up quick without too much pain.

I was cutting branches off a felled tree. I had probably cut 10-15 off, and was on the last one or two. Because the tree was on the ground, I had to put the saw at odd angles to cut the branches (from horizontal to almost vertical). I put my left foot on the trunk of the tree to reach the last ones, and simply brought the saw down onto my leg. Dumb. Plus, I was using a saw that was way too big for the job (too heavy). So, I think my arms were a bit tired. Needless to say, I've already ordered saw chaps and will be shopping for a lighter saw this week to handle the smaller diameter cuts.

Obviously, I feel sorta stupid. Live (thankfully) and learn.

I've had a few close calls and have small scars on my left knee from when I was not wearing chaps. Then I had a mishap that probably would have been worse than Pete's had I not been wearing chaps. I was wading through waist deep snow with both hands on the saw and I lost my balance falling backward. My mitt touched the throttle just after the chain crossed my left thigh and it tore through three layers of Kevlar leaving two layers uncut.

Glad it was no worse than that. Now you know better. Don't beat yourself up too bad. Now I know my dad knew something when he taught me to keep the blade to the side of my body at all times, and use a bow saw for the limbs.
