Help help with mower deck belt for Case 224 44" deck please?

I'm wondering and hoping that someone here can help with this, because even the parts counter guys at the Mankato Case dealer couldn't figure this out

I need to know the belt size for my deck/tractor (the info plate on the deck is worn, but it looks like the deck part number is K44) it's going on my 224 hydrostatic tractor with hydraulic deck/attachment lift

the Case parts guys couldn't even find an OEM belt part number, but once I told them it was an older tractor, and especially after I told them it's a mere garden tractor, they seemed to lose all enthusiasm for helping me, so I'm not convinced that Case doesn't still make/sell the belts

if anyone has one that they don't mind measuring ... I need the length and width - I'm pretty sure it's a 1/2" belt and is shorter than 74" from comparing it to the slightly longer snowcaster belt, which the 224 did have with it ... why, oh why didn't they just design them to use the same belt?

there's a tractor supply store in Mankato that has Kevlar A-belts for sale by length/width, so once I have those specs I won't even really need the Case part number (although I'd still like it so I can engrave the OEM belt info into the deck and the inside of the 224's hood, and I wouldn't mind having OEM belts on it either, but I'm working against the grass-growing clock here and there's a lotta rain coming up soon)

also, are there any brands of belts that are better to avoid for quality reasons? ... I already know not to use automotive style V-belts, but is there anything in particular to look for (good and bad) in a deck or blower belt? ... are there any special considerations that need to be addressed when buying a deck belt because its a 224 with hydrostatic, or because of this specific mower deck?

this will really, really help me out a lot here if I can get these measurements, I want to mow with this so badly, and I can tell that it's hungry for grass just by looking at it ... when I bought it at an auction it didn't have a deck belt with it at all, so no carcass to compare it to

thanks so much in advance for any help with this one ... here are a few photos of my $200 prize that starts, runs, rides and works perfectly (except for the missing deck belt) ... it's smooth, quiet, powerful and surprisingly fast in high range and it even came with a set of tire chains and a brand new (black) bolt-on rear weight box - the snow blower spun up smooth and fast and I'm really looking forward to trying that out this winter

it needs a good cleaning and some cosmetic love to be sure, but mechanically it's great ... I'd consider these 'before' photos if things go as planned this fall when I can tear into it and really freshen it up ... nothing extreme or worthy of a 'Pimp My Tractor' episode or tractor porn, but it will be receiving the care it deserves before snow blowing season

this 224, and a Kubota G5400H diesel were my first ever mowers (I've only had them since Easter), I've recently picked up a newer Murray and a big Craftsman GT5000 and I've also been paying close attention to all riding mowers and small tractors in stores and dealers lately ... I honestly have to say that I not only understand, but agree with so many members here who've been saying that they would rather have an older garden tractor than one of the newer, more plastic models ... last night I drove it a little and I even noticed how nice the steering wheel is compared to the new tractors I've been checking out, even that's much more heavy duty! ... I wish this quality was still being produced

If you have an industrial supply near by use them, or just contact bhildret of this forum as he is a dealer.

The case Corporation no longer has had anything to do with these machines since the early 80's - one of their biggest blunders.

Since you stole the tractor you should be able to afford an OEM belt, part number C23358 which is readily available from any Ingersoll dealer. If you are in a rush you can get a 66"x1/2" kevlar belt from TSC or NAPA but I recommend the OEM ones because they are slightly wider and hold up a very long time.

thank you so much, 66"x1/2" is just what I'm looking for ... this way I can at least get it mowing grass with a Kevlar belt ... I'm very anxious to see how this 224 mows

I don't have any problem at all with paying extra for quality parts ... and now that I know the Case part number maybe the dealer will actually want to sell me one ... I couldn't even get them to properly look it up when I was in there last time

I'll get a $20 Kevlar belt to get started and then swap it out with an OEM belt s soon as I can get one from Case ... the aftermarket belts make good emergency spares and I'd like one of each around for that, if nothing else ... but I agree, I'll be better off running OEM for normal use

thanks a lot for that measurement!

Apparently, you missed the point that Caseman2 was trying to make so listen up and learn.

In 1983, the J. I. Case company SOLD the entire outdoor power equipment division to John Ingersoll. When they did that, that PERMANENTLY ENDED their involvement with all of the garden and lawn tractors that bore the name CASE. The Case dealer network were no longer issued with parts books or replacement parts for the garden/lawn tractors because they would have been breaching the agreement with Ingersoll had they done so. It's not the fault of the Case dealer you went to. You might as well have gone to a Kubota, Deere of Cub Cadet dealer because, just like the Case dealer, they don't have any parts books for your tractor either.

Today, all parts for the Colt, Case and Ingersoll line of garden/lawn tractors are handled by Ingersoll dealers. If you want to find the one closest to you then go to http://www.ingersolltractors.com and use the dealer locater feature. Other than that, you can contact "bhildret" who posts in this forum. Brian is an Ingersoll dealer and will sell you whatever parts you need and mail them to you.

OEM belts are made with Kevlar construction but the major belt manufacturers all have there own line of Kevlar reinforced drive belts too. Your local NAPA, TSC or even a tractor dealership MAY have the size you are looking for. It is possible that the Case dealer may also have that belt available IF..... that same part number is still in use on other pieces of equipment made by Case.

It is, in Maine. An Ingersoll dealer would be more than happy to sell you the current version, which is, in most respects, the same.

Hey Rabbit Rescue, you might as well take off the cover for the 3 blades that expose the blade drive belt and replace it also, you won`t regret it, at that time also spin the pulleys without the belt on them and feel the bearings to see if they feel rough! Jack

The mandrel bearings are sealed for the life of the bearing. Since they are pretty inexpensive, most people just replace them every 500 hours or so.
