Default gravely governor

hello all, new to the forum. I have a mid 60s 7.5 convertable that has given good service for a long time. recently I started it up and would only run with the choke pulled out. It would rev high when not under load. the governor has a little fill spout the appears empty. does anyone know what weight oil/fluid is recommended for the governor. thanks

Welcome to the gang, I use #30 in all of my Gravely governors, should be a thumb screw to remove at the bottom of the case body for checking the oil level.

There should be a removable screw on the side/bottom of your governor unit - slowly fill the governor with 10W-30 until the oil starts to run out of the hole - then tighten things back up. I usually put a couple squirts of oil in the unit every couple of times that I use the tractor. I believe that some later governor units were sealed and supposedly perm. self-lubricated.
