Default Need help w/wiring issues-no spark

Hey everyone, still going crazy not being able to figure this issue out with my Cub Cadet 2140 w/onan 14 hp single cylinder. I'm getting no spark, I still have to try to gap the coil/ignition module, but I'm starting to think it's something else because the previous owner (my father) never had an issue w/ no spark until he started messing with overridding the safteys on the thing. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this tractor? I have the cub cadet service manual and it has no info on the engine at all. Is there a seperate manual for the engine? There has to be some issue with getting power to the coil that I don't know about, but I'm kinda lost w/o a wiring diagram. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance, Ken

P.S. Happy New Year to all !!!!!

well, sinc ethe problem started when he attempted to bypass the safeties, that tells me he screwed up and has the coil grounded. there will be a single wire going to the coil other than the plug wire(s). clip it and see if you get spark. be sure you leave plenty of wire there though, cause you need to hook it back together to kill the engine!

i can't help with teh diagram, but this should tell you if the coil is good.

you could also check teh safeties themselves. there will be one on the seat, one on the PTO, one on the brake, and one on the reverse linkage. pops probably just unplugged one of them, and this won't work on most safeties. some you unplug, some you short, and he got it wrong on one or more.

You can get a schematic here-
http://ihregistry.com/wiring/master.html

DON'T CLIP any wires!
There should be a connector!
The engine connector shows the Yellow wire to it as the kill wire.
You could unplug that connector and manually jumper the starter solenoid to crank the engine.

A defective seat switch is the likely culprit.
Unplugging it should disable it.
Beware that it MIGHT have a "shorting" connector. IF SO, unplugging it doesn't do any good, because there's a metal tab that slides in place and completes the circuit to ground.
The schematic doesn't show that type though.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll try that today and see if it works, Hopefully it's something easy like that, I bought a new coil ($105.00) and the wife wasn't happy when that didn't fix it.

I don't know if this information matters (forgot to put it in the 1st post), but It cranks just fine, I just have no spark at the plug w/ a new coil. I do still need to gap the coil so I'll try that 1st and see if I have any luck. Thanks again for the help and the diagrams are a life-saver!!!!
