I just got a 442 and I will be needing more traction. If I buy a set of 2 link chains will they fit if I change the tires out for ags later? Thanks

HI thud, and welcome. I'm not 100% postitive, but i think Ags have a much larger diameter. I'm sure some else will be able to let you know for sure.

You may have to lengthen them. I've changed chains around many times, including widening them. It beats buying more and having extras laying around. If the set you buy is a little long, leave 'em overlap. The ride will be a little more bumpy, but you put more cleats on the snow in the meantime. Let it snow.

Are you going to be in mud? If so, then just get the Ag's and forget the chains.
Are you going to be on frozen ground? If so, then get the 2 link chains and forget the Ag's. Either way, load the tires with RV plumbing anti-freeze and find some big cast iron wheel weights for 16" rims at one of the local agricultural dealerships in your area. Lots of machinery used the same style of 16" rims that are on your tractor and those rims often needed wheel weights too. In other words, don't think that you must find Case weights in order to be happy. Check with Ford, Massey, I/H, Deere and other dealers. If you have to take one back wheel with you, then so what? It's all about finding weights that work for the least amount of coin. |
