john deere LA 115?

Hi! Im new to this forum, but have read many, mnay posts! thanks for all the great info.

I am new to the rural area, and have bought a 2 acre property. I need a lawn tractor to cut my relatively flat property. I woulod like to use the tractor to haul some small loads of dirt and, airate, and fertalize as well.

I would was thinking about the x300, but the reviews and price point of the LA115 are inticing.

Was wondering what you thought of these two tractors and if i really need to spend the extra $$$ on the x300.

the LA series is designed mainly for suburban lots, not acreage. i bought the L130 years ago( predecessor to the current LA175) and even though it was the beefiest Lawn Tractor inthat line, i wore it out quickly. if you just MUST stay int eh LA series, at least go a couple sizes up from the 115.

Can't help with the LA115. When I started looking for a lawn mower I started at the X300. I went with the X360 because of the serviceable transmission and the hydrolic lift. I only have about 1 acre with about a 13 degree slope in the front and flat in the back. I read a lot of posts on this site before buying and one thing stuck with me. Find the mower you like (drive them) and if the wallet is able go one or two models up and you will never regret it.

The heaviest chore for your tractor will be aeration.... I used a K46-tranny driven machine for such chores, and got 400 hours out of it before broke. I abused it though, by plowing snow too, etc... If you're on a budget, then go with a 48" or 54" deck, to cut down on mowing time. 2 ac. will take you 2hrs with a 48" deck. Less mowing time means fewer hours per year on the engine and tranny, translating to more years of service.

If budget is not an issue, then go for the K58 powered X300-series machines (forget now which models have that tranny - the X300 itself is a K46).

Of course, I now have a 2305 with orders of magnitude more capability, and will tell you this: power steering rules!.... and to have that, you need a X360
