Default I Cannot Resist Kubota T1400H for $400.00

I did it again , I was prowling on Craigslist and found a Kubota T1400 for $400.00 I went and looked at it and got hooked and bought it. It is a clean machine and I got it home and tryed it out on my yard, It is sweet the way it mowed, The pervious owner was kept it in really good condition and had new blades, fresh oil, and a full tank of gas (welll not now on a full tank of gas, I mowed about 2 acres with it today).

Yeah here are some pictures of the lawn tractor. As you can see I did get it stuck in the yard, I did not know that I had a soft spot there and later on I washed my latest addition to my stable of toys....

That orange paint is tough to resist. Nice little machine. The T series have excellent reputations. Best of luck with her.

Yes I know that the quality is there. This machine weighs a lot for its size according to what I found on it it weighs 507 pounds and is only a few pounds less then my JD L120. I have a few minor issues that will be needed for me to look at, the hydro pedal sticks up I am suspecting that the bushings in the rocker is sticking and the seat safety switch is bypassed, there is a minor oil leak, but otherwise then those issues the tractor is in really good shape.

The engine starts up right away and runs really smooth. It really does a great job of mowing really lush grass I am impressed. I will work on it when I get time and I think that it is a keeper.

Nice find Michael! You really should switch to AGs though for mud running.

Mow, the engine is a Kubota built 13.5 rated HP, In the really lush grass it beats my JD. The deck is on the smaller size as it has a 40" inch deck.

Mark, I really do not think that AGs would have helped with the soft spots, What I really need to do is take out fence in the area where I found the soft spot and recontour that area where the soft spots are (I have several there) to get the water into the ditch, I have a slight swale just inside the fence and then a low spots. I just do not have time to borrow my neighbors bulldozer to do it. That might be a good project this summer when my neighbor finishes his projects on the new house he is building.

Thanks Kbietz but I was in the Kubota dealer on Monday and the dealer found the full maintenance record on the mower and they stated the engine was rebuilt only last year so it should be good to go for a while. I also found out from the dealer that the tractor was built in 1988 and the deck was new in 2003. This guy really maintained the machine and it shows.

I went there to get new blades, guide wheels and anti-scrap rollers for the deck as they are worn and one of the guide wheels has a hunk out of it, I also ordered new deck belts (do not need them but I hate to be out mowing and have a belt break and have to wait if I am mowing on a weekend for the dealer to open on the following Monday.

STUMBLED more like I fell over and this guy felt sorry and he just wanted to thin his herd a bit and let it go for a song just to geter outa here.

I went to dealer and picked up the parts today that I ordered and I was looking at the parts and they are really built strong. I mean the blades are double the thickness of the blades on my JD and the rollers and anti scrape wheels are plastic but they have metal bushings in them, You do not see the quality anymore. I was actually surprised that the blades only cost $17.00 a piece.

Well today it was raining and i decided to replace all the belts on the tractor.

I removed the deck and I replaced the 2 mower belts and the blades with new ones and greased the spindles, I can only say is the deck is really heavy this thing must weigh at least one and half times heavier then the 48" deck on my JD L120 I was really surprised by the weight of everything on this tractor. The blades that I put on it are thicker then what I am used to seeing so this thing was built to be a tank

Other companies could really get lessons on how Kubota routes it belt on the hydro on these mowers, at least this model. I expected it to be hard to replace the drive belt but all you got to do is remove the center bolt (it is a allen style bolt) and the 3 pulley bolts on the rear pulley and release the spring tensioner and the belt slips out easily around the engine pulley. It actually took me all of 15 minutes to install and it sure improved the response of the hydro to the pedal. The old belt was stretched pretty badly and it was probably older then the hills. After all the tractor is 20 years old so this is no surprise that it has some issues.

I also fixed the sticking hydro pedal. Where the pivot arm for the pedal goes into the sleeve was badly rusted. I took this all apart and using a old brake hone that fit perfectly, I cleaned ups the inner bore and then using PBlaster I cleaned and then sanded the pivot arm up until it shined. I then used a whole bunch of grease and reassembled the pivot arm and the pedal. This is something I will keep a eye on and will take apart once a year and regrease to prevent it from happening again.

After I was done and doidging raindrops I ran the tractor for a quick test drive. I was really happy with no more sticking pedal and I ran a couple of runs next to my driveway with the mower, Everything worked perfect.

Finishing up I went back into the garage and changed the oil. I feel pretty satified with the money spent on this tractor.
