Nice bikes KHodges... That Ninja is a true legend... It's at the top of my wishlist if I can find a good deal and restore.
If you get a chance, you should try to take a joy ride on one of the newer sport bikes. SO different. Fuel injection, steering stabilizers, slipper clutch (imagine banging down 3 gears into a corner entry with no screaming from the rear tire), MUCH lighter, and fantastic suspension. They're also much smaller and more cramped (or I'm just getting fatter), but it's worth it!

Chad, if I ever do get another motorcycle, God forbid I get a fast one. There's just too much temptation for me to ride on the street like I was on the track. I really enjoyed the Ninjas, very fast in their day (still quick, but a good 750 today will smoke my 900). I rode my street bike to Daytona twice, from NC, as well as to upstate NY and the Maine coast and many other places. As much as I rode the Z-1, I had more miles on the Ninja in much less time, 48,000 miles in 2-1/2 years. Lots of mods to the suspension, brakes and engine, including a Vance & Hines ported head, retuned valve timing and the fuel injection from a GPz-1100. It topped out around 170. Oddly enough, my racebike was pretty much stock except for brakepads and forksprings (class restrictions)
I'd love to find a 1969 or 1970 BSA Lightning 650, dead stock. Just want something to tool around with and work on. My first motorcycle was a 1972 Triumph Daytona 500. Also rode it from NC to Key West when I was 18. I love the old Brit twins. |

I hear ya, I'll restore sportbikes, but usually will sell them quick for those same reasons.
I have a Sporty 1200R that I keep for personal use. Not a full cruiser, but a step in that direction. And also a Suzuki DR200, street legal dual sport. That thing is FUN, especially with my 280lbs on it. I look hilarious on it. I'm enjoying the older bikes these days myself. My Dad had a 1978 (?) Honda Hawk 400, a 1981 Suzuki GS850, and a 1983 Holda Goldwing GL1100 Interstate. A piece of my heart it still in love with those older machines.

Found this pic of my 2nd Triumph, a '72 Daytona 500. That's me with the long hair, at age 22 (many, many moons ago) and the little tyke is my cousin, who is now much bigger than me.

Hey all! I'm one of those crazy sport bike riders! LOL, I'm a resident member of CBRjunkie.com and a huge fan of Honda ... so it looks to me like I'm pretty singled out here. Either way, I get along great with my father-in-law with his bad biker self and his nice Road King, so I could care less what ya drive
Anyway, here's my toys in order of when I aquired them ![]() This is my 2000 Yamaha XT225 that I learned to ride on. Awesome gas mileage, but a pain in the ass to ride over 1/2 hour! ![]() Here's my (now her) 1997 Honda CBR600F3 "Skittles". Bike looked much worse when I first got her 4 years ago ... missmatched plastic, cracks/rash and all. I dumped her hard once and managed to break both inner forearms at the same time as well as bent forks/smashed plastic. Guess I didn't learn much on my XT LOL! Last summer I repaired all the plastic myself as well as primed and finish painted her all black so that my lover Jamis has a nice ride. ![]() Here's my current favorite bike, 2003 Honda CBR600F4i "Widow Maker". She has that name for good reason because it was in a bad wreck that took the life of a young man that I used to work with. When I got it, it had the forks replaced and a new rear rim as well as exhaust can off an F2. I've stripped most the fairings off and added an engine/crash cage so that's why she has that streetfighter look. I'm no professional stunter, but I'm that wreckless guy that's fooling around in empty parking lots teaching myself to misbehave. So there's a small part of my life story, if you live in the central Wisconsin area and love to ride, hit me up and we can put on some mile this summer.

Here's a few of mine:
![]() From left to right: 1982 Yamaha XS400 Heritage Special, 1982 Yamaha XS650 Heritage Special, 1975 XS650, !988 Yamaha Venture Royale, 2005 Harley Low Rider (my wife's bike), and 2006 Harley Street Bob. The pic is from about a year & a half ago. I've sold the XS400 & the Venture. I also have three other project XS650's that I think I going to sell because I don't have time to work on them. |
