Default Deere 314 50" Deck idler spring

Not sure where this spring hooks to....the brass bracket off the spindle or to the round mushroom shaped cap on the deck itself...also is my spring facing the right direction? Thanks in advance!

On my 50" the spring hooks to the mushroom shaped pin. The part over under the sheave housing looks like M86243 retainer. The parts diagram shows one but I believe it is in error and that is used on the 46" deck. I think the spec calls out for 1/8" spacing between the tension arm and the "stop" with everything in place.

Hmmm its just weird that its in the 50" deck diagram. I use to just put it over the mushroom thing but my belt has snapped and was new in the spring so wondered if that was the problem. When I had it hooked up that way the belt seemed to flop around. I put new idler arm bushings and pulley bushings in this time. But putting the spring on that bracket would give the belt more tension that it seemed to need. Im curious if anyone else uses that mushroom thing for their belt.

Thanks for the responses! I think I will put the deck on as is with the mushroom thingy and then see if the belt still flops around. Is your spring facing the same way as mine?

Yes mine is hooked up just like how it is in yoou picture. Did you replace both belts? You might have the wrong belt on. If it has a lot of slop measure both belt to see if one is shorter then the other.........KJD

Yeah I definitely have the right belt, checked it myself and the dealer confirmed and even looked here for the part number so know they didnt get mixed up. I will try and hook up tomorrow and then put up a video of it in action, if its still slopping around. Thanks for your help so far!
