Snagged this out of the trash last wee and I love it. Starts on the first pull but spits gas up out of the carb at speed. Always had a thing for older equipment. Any ideas would be appreciated. Also I have no time frame on when its from if anyone knows.

all those did that when the air cleaner screw was out. thru the hole the air cleaner screw threads into.... look for model type and code numbers
the 1st 2 numbers of code is year engine was built (the "19"_ _ is left off so if code starts with "77" the eng was built in 1977) I would guess that mower's from mid to late 70s |

Sorry about the picture size, took it with my phone and thought it would be smaller. And if I am reading the code right its a 75. And no I don't wee in anyone's trash, but you did make my wife laugh. Already stripped down and cleaned the carb but I didn't know about the it spitting without the air cleaner. I've never see one with the carb mounted on the fuel tank like this. Still need to figure out why it dies above idle but I know more now than I did yesterday. Thank you for the info.

Its a Simplicity if you didn't know that already. The model and serial tag is under the white belt cover on the back I believe.

when running put the air cleaner stud back into its hole and it wont spit like that. there is an adjustment screw on the carb look below where the throttle cable goes there is a round hole for a screwdriver to fit into. may just need adjusted. I typically start with that set about 1-1/4 out and adjust from there as needed to make the engine happy. this was "Standard Briggs" for years and years. (gas tank mount carb) I think there are still a few, cheaper push mowers, power washers etc that use this setup but the newer ones aint like they used to be.(now non adjustable, don't like a sudden clump of heavy grass etc)
