Default mower deck 445 pto stopped working

while cutting the grass today after the mower was warmed up the mower deck stop cutting . i would reset the switch and it would turn back on most of the time. I think it might be the pto switch but not sure . Is it a common problem? the mower is a 95 with 380 hrs on it. Any help in trouble shooting would be great!

The PTO switches do have to be replaced...while not a real common problem, it is a known issue.

pull the right side panel & look @ the Power module when the thing is running and you are in the seat. If there is a Red LED lit then all the safety switches are satisfied to start the PTO. The switch is the main culprit. (I just went through this on my 425)

If it isn't lit than ring out your seat switch (brake has to be OFF or it shuts it off!)
Next victim is the PTO switch.. Get a replacement & have fun getting the old one outta there!

Another possibility..

They're designed to shut the PTO off if the engine temp gets too high. Check your coolant level, make sure your screens stay clean, and keep an eye on your temp guage.

My PTO ready Red LED on the power module was off but when I turned the switch on I had 12V+ @ the actuator on the upper rear of the tranny.. I replaced the switch and the PTO ready light came right on then the PTO worked after that..

As far as coolant temperature- I looked @ the PTO trouble-shooting for the 445 and it isn't in the loop.. Nice thought though DP..

D/L & save this Service manual to your computer or even a zip drive for future reference Dave: http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=142324

Wow, yet another reason why the 455 is superior.

I figured something like that would be universal across all 3 (425/445/455).

Yep, only 455's have the overtemp PTO shutoff.

But, the 425/445 are sort of superior in that they use the 455 radiator, which is way oversized for the gas models. Thus, the gassers rarely overheat and don't need the added cost of the overtemp switch.

It's all good. You'd have to be a few fries short of a happy meal to overheat a 455.
