Default onan twin driving me crazy

I am just about ready to give up on this gravely. Anyone know where I can get a fuel pump ( 170-1424 ) for my onan. I have looked at all the usual sites, but cannot find this particular one.It is an Onan cck twin. I cannot find any motor numbers and have a hard time finding any parts for it. I believe the motor came off of a onan generator & put on this 812 by previous owner.
I tried to clean the fuel pump, but no luck I believe it is junk, but cannot find anything to replace it. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it and will another pump fit. thanks for any help

Have you asked www.onanparts.com? He is pretty knowledgable and will surely help you out. Maybe you could adapt an electric fuel pump? The lower flow ones are pretty reasonable at you local auto parts place.

I can't find a picture of that pump anywhere. Boomer might know what that is.

If it were mine, I would likely put a pulse pump on it. The difficult part would be to locate the pulse port on the engine for it.

Boomer likely has some used. guaranteed pulse pumps at very reasonable prices. I have bought some from him.

I don't like electric pumps.

Call Boomer or Onan Parts. They have a solution I'm sure of it. We have gotten spoiled and like to order everything online these days and I find that a pick up of the phone to the right person can save hours of searching.

Some of the original Onan parts are long gone and with good reason. The original part was not as good as it could be. What isn't generally known is what part supersedes the old one.

A few different pumps were used on any given engine. It is usually the spec number that tells the story there.

The pulse pump is a good solution as it is cheap and reliable. It is the pump used on the P224. If that pump can handle that big block engine, it can handle yours.

The pulse port is usually located above and forward of the oil filter and is capped off.

Putting a mechanical pump is likely an option too. The interesting part about the mechanical pumps used on the CCKA is the priming lever. It has to be in the correct position for the pump to work. Rebuild kits for the mechanical pump are available.

Can you post a picture of the pump you have?

finally gave up on that onan cck. pulled it off and found # indicating it is a gravely 812 & original motor was a kohler K301. I have a line on a 16 hp Kohler & am waiting for the guy to get back to me.That CCK onan just beat me up. I'm hoping to have more luck with this kohler and thinking that it will go on easily. We will see. Thanks for the help

If you want to sell that engine, let me know. I will take it as-is. I could always use a good 18 horse engine. If you want to trade, I have a running M18. It could use a set of rings but other than that the M18 is good and it runs nice.

If it were mine I would spend the $30 for a used pump like the one on the 24G. Amazing amount of pressure and volume comes out of those pumps.

I figured I would explain the history behind the M18 I have. It came on a 16G and I upgraded the engine to a 24hp Onan. I put the M18 on a 816S and gave it to a buddy. After using it a while he wanted to try one of my other tractors. He tried the CCKA powered 8123 that is here. After experiencing the CCKA, he now wants to upgrade to a CCKA Onan.

I should have said that I did rebuild the fuel pump, but then the carburetor was leaking fuel from the adjustment needle and I found that it is almost impossible to find parts for. I did patch it up and when I started it ,the starter mounting flange just snapped off and the starter was just hanging..With all the trouble I had with that starter, that was the last straw.
I still can't find any numbers on the motor, but I am sure it is a cck. I do have another gravely 818T with an onan B48M that I am able to get parts for. That one I use for blowing snow and it runs great. But those engines are hard to find also.Thinking I will repower with the kohler on the 812-- Thanks Dan

Since the carb is toast, I would put a Marvel DD on it. The DD is the same on on the B48.

A replacement starter mount should not be too hard to locate. Boomer might have one.

I will admit the smoothness of an Onan is unparallelled. But Kohlers are cheaper, easier to work on, less apt to develop "onan problems" and easier to find parts for. God, I love the old Kohlers.
