Default TN70 4x4 Problem

Just purchased a 2003 TN70 and I am having problems getting the 4x4 to engage. It is the pull up lever style with no indicator light. The book says to pull up while decelerating but that is not getting it done. I have tried clutching, not clutching as well as various speeds. Can someone help please?

Sorry you haven't gotten any help. My D40 Case has the same system. I usually engage 4WD while standing still with the clutch depressed. Sometimes I've had to move the tractor a bit to engage -- but seldom. I disengage while still or moving with the clutch depressed.

If I was having a problem I'd check the exposed linkage first to make sure it had enough adjustment to engage. Total movement on my lever is probably 2-3".

Are you SURE that it's not engaging? You can't tell on mine unless you load it up to the point that you need 4WD ---- as in when I'm using a 6' tilling implement or in deep snow.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I had checked the linkage and it seemed adequate. I tried engaging from a dead stop once before and it did not work. I will try that again as i usually am rolling as the book recommends. Thanks again.

Hello,

Were you able to resolve the 4x4 engagement problem?

We have a TN70 with the same issue. Thanks. Scott

Scott,
Yes, I figured out the best way for my particular tractor. I travel at a moderate speed and then decelerate quickly as I pull up hard on the lever. Do not engage the clutch. I find it helps to do this on a slight decline or down slope. Maybe it will work for you.
