Default why won't pto spin on my IH 1486

I just bought this thing 5 days ago and hope I didn't buy a disaster... I haven't got it off the trailer yet but went out to see if everything worked last night. The lift works and the trans seems to shift good. The torque amplifier is stiff, but the pto doesn't seem to be working. I had the tractor running at a low idle and with the trans in "PARK" I moved the pto lever fwd and felt it engage and felt/heard a shaft begin to spin when I engaged the lever. No bad or strange noises everything seemed fine until I looked out back and neither pto shaft was spinning. Its an independent pto so I wouldn't think the trans being in park would effect anything. Is there some hidden lever I didn't see in the dark that selects which pto spins? Am I doing something wrong or is the pto shot. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks and sorry for the dumb question.

Does this tractor have a cab, I'm trying picture if you're moving the right lever ;-)
Also are you familiar with torque amplifiers?

originally it had a cab but it was removed before I bought it. Not sure why but its gone now. I'm looking for a new cab to put on it though. There is only one lever for the pto (i think) and that's the one I'm throwing and it moves the linkage on the pto case, but it doesn't spin. I'm thinking a shaft may have broken because if it was the clutch I would imagine that it would still spin but it would slip when a load was applied.

It has a torque amplifier, I need to get it off my trailer to see if that works or not, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't effect the pto...

I'll sell it to you cheap

Don't get too upset.

My nephew thought he had destroyed the transmission on a 4020 JD.

He got on it one day and nothing related to the transmission would work.

Well it turns out that the 4020 with power shift (automatic) transmission has a disengage lever on the floor!!

He kicked that lever getting on the tractor.

They had that tractor since new, it had never been kicked before.

The tractor was ten years old when it happened for the first time!

The dealer mechanic re-engaged the lever and all was fine.

Do a little reading, you might get lucky also!!

Our 686 has a canopy and the PTO lever is behind seat, kind of awkward location that's why
asked if it had a cab as a cab tractor the lever would probably be in another place.

The reason I brought up the TA wasn't because of the PTO, it's that many people don't shift
them properly, it should a nice even smooth movement but quick don't play around with
and it will last a long time if it's working properly now, it's an expensive repair.
Also I believe a 1086 will hold back while going downhill with TA engaged a 686
will not, it's like being in neutral going downhill. There's a difference in the TA
designs but not sure where the line is in the 86 series, I think the 986 is the
same as the 686.
