Moved to the JD Forum.

When you have the clutch-in, trans in nuetral, blades off and turn the key to start the machine, is there power to the wire (smaller low voltage wire, not the battery cables) at the Starter Solenoid? Sounds like a bad solenoid to me so far, that's where I'd start looking. Easy to test, jump a hot wire from the battery to the solenoid and see if it works and the engine turns over.

Before you do anything, check all the grounds and electrical connectors to insure good, clean, connections.
