Default wiring 318 electric fuel pump

anyone have some advice on how to wire an electric fuel pump?

i was thinking with a relay going off the oil pressure switch. that way, whenever the pressure switch closes (when there is oil pressure) the pump turns on and whenever it opens (engine loses oil pressure) it turns off.

was also thinking a relay off the hour meter, but that might not be a good idea as it could easily flood the engine if the key was left "on" for some reason.

I am not sure if you jump from the oil sending unit will work. Usually the electric fuel pump need to have power to prime when you turn the key on.

When I did my 318 I used the hour meter to power the relay. It worked fine and I only removed it after having to replace the stater and found that mice had chewed a hole in the vaccuum line to the fuel pump. It was on for over 1 year. Does draw some DC power.

thanks guys. agree on the priming, so maybe the hour meter is the way to go. d-dogg, is your's powered direct from the coil or is a relay used?

anyone have a wiring diagram of how these are wired in a 400?

I use no relay, Jakenbake. My pump is tiny and not much of a draw. The PO did the conversion quite a while ago, and no troubles.

Tap into anywire that comes on when the key is turned to RUN.. I wouldn't do the Oil switch though as already suggested.. The key is on= the pump will run.. Sound right?
