Default 1984 Murray 11 HP

Okay, here's what I have, I mow my Mother's yard with a Murray 11 HP unit.
I need parts for it, a solenoid for the starter and some parts for the "on the fly" speed settings. I copied down the info from the under seat tag, but it appears that I copied the number wrong. What I thought I read was: 4-56534, but I'm thinking that first 5 must be a 3 because I think I recall it's a 36" deck. The date stamp is 0614, which if I translate correctly means it was built in early March of 1984? I need a parts manual for the variable speed as something is clearly missing from the linkage. The tractor is 45 miles away so I can't take pictures right now, but will on my next visit. The way it operates now is that I have low and high and reverse from the gear shift located below the front of the seat but the variable speeds are not available. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Click the link below and scroll down to 4-36534, that will be your parts schematic. Sorry, I'm no help with the motion drive.....

The solenoid shouldn't be a problem, as I think you can get one from just about home improvement store. I know I've seen them at Tractor Supply even. As for the linkage, I will let someone with more experience with older tractors answer. Are you sure that the transmission isn't shot?

I'm not sure about anything at this point, I figured that the solenoid would be easy but not the transmission issue. I have to start somewhere however! Thanks.

Nothing from the 80's manual wise. The closest I know of is MTF member leftyclick is working on scanning a manual for an 88.......

After studying the drawings, it appears that the problem is that the speed selector link is no longer attahed to the pedal lever ***'y. The six speeds seem to be a function of the variable pulley, not the transaxle. As I stated earlier the transaxle; low, high and reverse. all function. Am I on the right track?

I cant see it from here but I think you may be on the right track... Is the linkage hanging? or gone?

My problem is that I can't see it from here either! But on last inspection, I had come to the conclusion that something was not right with the linkage, no drawing equalled, no clue. At least now I have an idea of what to look for. Thanks.

If you take the deck off you should be able to see things a bit clearer.

Dang, now I'm looking at this electrical schematic and wondering if the clutch limit is the culprit instead of the starter solenoid, regarding my starting issue. I got it started last time by jumping the starter to the battery. The clutch limit is attached to the pedal lever ***'y as is the speed selector. Got to get up there and look at it!!

I made a basic troubleshooting guide that you might find helpful. Just click on my sig and find the link "Engine not cranking?"

What you are referring to is commonly called a safety switch. This interrupts the starting circuit if the brake pedal is not depressed. There should be another on on the deck engagement lever.

Both are normally open switches. When the button is depressed on the switch it completes the circuit.

Thanks, been doing industrial wrenching and wiring for close to 40 years, so that little circuit doesn't daunt me. The big issue is bringing the right tools to her house, together with the parts diagram etc. I may have been able to muddle through this without any help, but the info I've gotten today makes the job a whole lot easier. I appreciate everyones help!
