Default JD 30" Hydro Rototiller fo 318

I came across a rototiller today. the guy wanted $500 for it. It looked pretty complete for a 317. However, I'm looking to fit it on a 318.

Is the $500 a good deal? Also, does anyone have pics of how it connects and the associated hardware I would need. Thanks!

The tiller for the 317 will not fit the 318 without major modifications. The tiller for a 317 is a model 33 where as the tiller for the 316 onan, 318,322,332 is a model 30 hydraulic. here is a picture of the tiller that would fit you 318 one with factor hookup, the other with 3 point conversion. Aslo 500 for a model 33 is fair depending on what all it comes with. on the other hand 500 is a steal on a model 30 hydraulic.

factory original way

Three point conversion

And last here is a picture of a model 33 that fits the closed frame 312,314,316 Kohler and 317

Excellent info TNT.

I am trying to learn about the differences between tillers myself.

I dont even understand how the hydraulic tillers work, as I have never seen one.

Maybe I will start a new thread, so as not to hijack.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful. The one I found is like the first one. However, the owner said there was an extension piece that I could fit on to extend it to over 40 inches. I"m also curious about how it works. Best Regards

Your welcome and here is some more information.
Yes there is an extension you can buy to make it 42" however good luck finding one at a reasonable price I have been looking for one my self an have seen them go over 300 just for the extension. The 30" tiller will dig 7" deep and it does an awesome job, I love mine. Once you add the extension the manual says it will only dig 5" deep. Also with the hydraulic models you can put the tiller on either direction to have forward rotating tine or counter rotating tine. I have mine in forward as does most of the people I have talked to. There are also 2 versions one has a belly mount pump and one has a rear mount pump. The rear mount pump requires a rear pto, where as the belly mount uses you mule drive and deck belt to run.

Well I bought it. It's missing some mount and lift brackets, needs some new tines, and the back panel. But otherwise looks complete. I hope I didn't pay too much. I took some photos of the other one that was there too. It was set up for a 212. I figured I send the photos of the belly brackets in case anyone else was interested. [IMG]

For reference here is the parts list for mounting... I just got mine all mounted up today. Just make sure you put the pump assembly under the tractor BEFORE you hook up the lift points ... otherwise you will not be able to fit the pump in between the tiller and and frame . trust me

and the mounting holes variations and digging depths:

EDIT: And here is the Spec Sheet.

I would go with the 3 point hitch mount that Jim Briney sells, for one it is way easier to hook up and for 2 it will be way cheaper than getting the correct mounts for it. I sold my factory mounts for 200.00 and the mount on the tiller for another 75.00. Jim's 3 point conversion cost 180.00 shipped. You will also need a bracket for the pump for a 300 series he may make those also I am not sure.

Thanks all. I need a good 3pt to support it. Any thoughts on aftermarket vs. facotry? Probably a lot on this topic over the years....

Reugg makes a very good 3 ph for the 318! I have a JD OEM on mine and I've been impressed with the ones from Reugg!

I went with Jim Briney's factory replacement brackets. Would have loved the 3pt, but I can't justify the cost of the whole set up for my use.
